These Lost Abbey brewing people seem to not know how to classify beer. Their “rustic” Farmhouse Lager tastes like a Czech Pilsner, and their Czech Pilsner tastes like a crisp malty lager. Anyway, this smells very yeasty and malty and bready (cracker/baguette), with subtle peppery hops. Taste mostly follows the nose- baguette, mild honey and caramel sweetness, subtle peppery and grassy hops. It’s a pretty solid beer. Tastes better than the last can I had, which may have expired. Anyway, I think they should just switch the labels on these two beers.

16 oz can in to a pilsner glass. Slightly cloudy pale yellowish-straw color with a rocky white head. Doughy malt and faint lemon acidity in the nose. Sweet bready malt, indeterminate citric acidity, very mild noble hop bitterness. Medium-light feel, crisp and refreshing.

Poured from a 16oz can into a glass
Look: Crystal clear straw gold with a thick white head.
Smell: Crisp and Clean. Biscuits, noble hops, refreshing.
Smell: Biscuit malt up front the a crisp bitter noble hop comes and interrupts. The bitterness fades to a more subdued biscuit malt that fades out.
Mouthfeel: Bright, crisp, clean. Medium bitterness. No acid. No alcohol. Refreshing.
Overall: Your classic European Pilsner brewed in America. A textbook example. Excellent.

Here we are with one of the Top 3 accomplished Belgian-inspired brewers in North America and they want me, a biased Belgo-phile, to review their lager. For the record, I've drank 11 uniques from Lost Abbey and two have been lagers and Noble Tendencies is the better. In truth, it's close to great for only a second re-release... up there with the masters who have been making lagers for centuries.
After that buildup, Noble Tendencies could have better Looks (more foam and more active would help.) Smells are mostly malt. But in the Taste, Lost Abbey shows its magic and makes balance out of not much of my interest passing before. The finish strikes a perfect balance that I rarely find in this hoppy lager style. Clean and refreshing. Medium-mouthed.
Overall, I'm not going to start writing poetry to describe this beer; but it is almost good enough to start inspiring the impossible. Prost and A Sante' !

(Keg at Juova, 20250109) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized, white and it lasted long. Aroma had grass, grain and honey. Palate was medium bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were grass, grain, honey and bitterness. Aftertaste had grass, straw and bitterness. Rarely, I get to try a Pils with such a clean pilsner malt flavour. This is a good pils.

Copenhagen 4/2 2023. 47,3 cl can from Kihoskh, Sønder Boulevard. Kbh. K. White can with a golden drowsy eye.
Pours slightly unclear yellow with a big white head. Stable. Settles as thin, layer of fam covering the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, malty odor mingling with a light citric scent with a dry touch of grass. Sweet, pale malts. Lemon and citrus. Sharp grainy notes.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a medium strong sweetness followed by a slightly more moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter with a sweetish undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry.
A bit on the sweet and malty side despite noble intentions.

Crystal clear golden pour with a full white head with tons of spotted lacing. Smells of grassy and slightly earthy hops dot the bready yeast, biscuit, lemon zest, and mild slightly toasted grain. Taste has the old world hops with crisp malt, bready yeast, lemon peel, earth grain and cracker. Feel is super crisp and clean, great hop bitter tones on the finish that just sing with the grain of the yeast and crispness of the malt. Really good. The wife liked it

Extremely good. Superb. Remarkable. Crackery as heck. Honey and biscuit exquisite malts take center stage. Noble hops masterfully infused here.
Wonder how they did this!
Tldr: rich curtains of lace chased this fizzy cracker barrell. Bouquets of lilac, pine, and hop depth are abundant here. Damn!

16 fl oz can:
5% ABV. "Czech-style pilsner." Hops: Saaz. Malts: Bohemian Pils, Munich.
Served cold into a Lost Abbey teku.
Doesn't spotlight the spicy Saaz hops or crackery pilsner grain to the extent I'd expect a great pilsner to, but it does nail the subtle dryness and faint breadiness of the style.
I couldn't justify paying a premium for this over, say, Pilsner Urquell a second time, but it's a nice little pilsner from Lost Abbey and it's nice to see an American brewery putting out pilsners that aim to be traditional instead of overhopped.
Here, we have a pilsner proper, not an IPL marketed as one.
