473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. Review from notes.

Appearance - Dark amber / coppery brown color. A finger plus of off-white head has some legs and the clarity is quite good.

Smell - Muted notes, some earthy hops and dashes of coffee. A light floral aroma permeates everything. The maple is unfortunately neutralized to my nose.

Taste - Some earthy hops and just a slight bit of coffee and that's about it. Thin on flavor, which was expected, but even still, this flavor is thinner than I expected. Maple is ever so barely there.

Mouthfeel - Light, easy drinking, modestly carbonated.

Overall - Nice to see an English mild, just which that for a brew that advertised maple and coffee both of those would be a little more present. Still a decent quaff and worth trying as it makes for an easy warm weather brew.

Appearance: Pours with a thumb's worth of head that didn't lace or retain. The body is a deep brown that shows very mild carbonation that does let you see silhouettes in terms of it's opacity.

Smell: There is a blending of smells of caramel malt, maple syrup and coffee blend to give a smell reminiscent of maple cream cookies. It's there and strong without the need for warming, although it's awfully sweet and leaves me a it concerned about the beer.

Taste: Thankfully those concerns were unfounded, as the maple and malt sweetness starts off mild and restrained by a mild coffee note, that grows but never wholly departs from it's sweeter nature, although I think I get even a hint of maple wood near the end. That said, it's mild, but very much as advertised.

Mouthfeel: The well balanced maple sweetness and bitter coffee is what makes up the aftertaste, but it's mild so it doesn't become clingy. The carbonation is low, which is a bit of a disappointment but it does really keep the beer mild as advertised.

Drinkability: Light bodied as I would expect from a low ABV mild offering. Refreshing but has a lot of flavor for something with such a low ABV. That said, it's mild and incredibly easy to drink. The sweetness is curbed very well making this a great beer for any time but sweltering summer.

Final Thoughts: I quite enjoyed this beer, perhaps a big reason is I am a big fan of low ABV English ales. This strikes me as the perfect first beer to have on the day after. It's mild and easy on the system but has that hint of coffee. This is a mild, it's not going to knock your socks off, nor is it meant to. It's meant to be an easy, drinkable, session beer ideally to be had as a dessert or a morning quaff. Thumbs up.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 2022 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear copper brown with reddish highlights, sporting one finger of foamy, light tan-coloured head that settles off within several minutes' time. A thin collar is the only remnant, with scant lace deposition as the level drops. Maple syrup candy and caramelized sugar on the nose, with hints of toasted malts, nuts and faint coffee. Smells very sweet, like a confection.

That being said, the flavour profile isn't quite as saccharine as I'd feared: toasted, bready malts and wheat at the forefront, with hints of coffee and a pleasant, fruity acidity that I can't quite pinpoint. The coffee lasts into the finish, with hints of maple candy and glazed nuts; the maple lingers briefly into the aftertaste, but weakly bitter coffee grounds last a tad bit longer. Light in body, with low carbonation that softly brushes against the tongue, lending a gentle crispness to this brew's smooth, somewhat slick mouthfeel. Very easy to knock back - I could drink a few of these in a row, at least in theory.

Final Grade: 3.51, a B grade. MacLean's Maple Coffee Mild is an interesting little light ale. As a mild ale, I can't say it wowed me - in fact, besides the coffee and maple flavours, there's not a whole lot else here. Gimmicky for sure, but it deserves some credit for delivering what it advertises in an inoffensive and relatively even-handed manner. Worth trying at least once.

Pours brown colour with a small head. Strong coffee notes on the smell and taste. I don’t detect any maple, too bad. I usually don’t like coffee flavoured beers but this one was ok
