One of the best Black IPA's, if not the best - excellent

Dark brown color and piled high with foam in the Troubadour goblet. Lovely clouds of carbonation in the mouth, which seem to temper the bitterness and make this even more appealing.
One of the better Black IPAs I"ve had-- but maybe because it doesn't follow the usual hop overload recipe. The darkness is more of a Schwartzbier charred taste, with a light malty mellowness. Hops are subdued pine and some citrus peel. Some orange zest aromatics.
Another very well-made brew from Schooner Exact. Sudsy and highly drinkable with a bitter edge. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the brewery restaurant in Seattle.

22oz bottle poured into a big mug. Date on the side is 10-20-14. Hopefully that's bottled on.
Pours very dark brown, nearly opaque, with an initially large light brown head that fades at a medium pace into a medium sized head with thick lacing. Lots of active carbonation. Pretty beer. Smell is initially caramel and roast, with a little attention there's some fine hops in there. Piney and fresh.
Taste is very roasty, slightly caramelly, slightly smokey. Slight charcoal. Bitter finish, just a touch of soapiness.
Mouthfeel is a little filmy. Overall, it's a good beer.
