This is an ESB made with smoked malt. The brewery is unsure if they will continue to brew this as a smoke beer, so I listed it as a regular ESB. Please adjust if needed.
Served in straight pint glass. Poured a good looking copperish amber color with a fairly solid, light khaki colored head that had decent retention and low-to-fair lacing.
The smoke is just noticeable and doesn't really hide the malt or the even-handed use of hops. the smokiness lingers for a few moments at the back of the tongue, but otherwise doesn't distract from the balanced finish of this brew.
The body is a little fuller than typical for the style. Drinkability depends on your tolerance for smoke beers, but this is an easy smoked beer to have several of.
Overall, a tasty beer that's worth your time. I wouldn't mind if the brewery made both the smoked and non-smoked versions.
