I had this on-tap at Kloby's during Baltimore Beer Week. Served in a sample glass.
Appearance: Pours a very dark brown with some red at the edges where the light comes through. There is a layer of light tan head that fades to a ring around the glass.
Smell: Roasty coffee with dark fruit and some mild bourbon.
Taste: Quite roasty with some mildly bitter coffee up front. Bourbon and a mild malt sweetness in the background. I expected the flavor to be a bit fuller.
Mouthfeel: I thought the body was on the thin side for this beer. Prickly carbonation with a dry finish.
Overall: I would have liked the flavor to be a bit bolder, perhaps I should have had it when it first came out. Would have like a bit thicker body as well. Still not a bad beer.

On tap at Max's. I seemed to like this quite a bit more than just about everyone else there, so my point of view migh be toward the high end.
Pours a very dark brown without much of a head and leaves a tiny bit of lacing behind. Nose brings forward some bourbon and a good amount of backig roast and chocolate. Taste brings out the bourbon a bit more and some dark chocolate flavors come through more. Feel is quite think and creamy, creating a really nice experience. Drinks pretty well, but is a bit heavy overall.

Previously reviewed upon release during BBW 2010. During BBW 2011, a year old keg was unearthed at Klobys for the Evolution Beer Meets Wood Event. Re-reviewing...
Pours a matte dark brown with a light tan head with a thin film. Fades to a thick crown and streaky lacing. Mild aroma of bourbon, oak and roast malt; much drier and less sweet than the flavor. The bourbon and porter dominate the flavor. Basically straight up BA Lucky 7, with a smoother barrel presence than a year ago (shocker). Body is initially thin and fizzy, overcarbonated and dry before finishing a little more syrupy and sweet. Sort of an awkward blend, intersting flavors but not well integrated and aging poorly (in composition, not flavor) in my opinion. Still very sweet, and pales side by side to Morning Wood or year old Menagerie 3, but the fact this is improving with age makes me hopeful for recent and future Evo releases.

On tap at Max's in Baltimore. Apparently this is a blend of the Lucky 7 and a unlisted on BA (as of now) brown ale, aged in whiskey or bourbon barrels. BBW at Max's 10/10/2010
Pours a dark mocha brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is similar to Lucky 7, with a rich dark malt body not so subtly blended with a strong whiskey burn. This blend/lack of balance in the aroma isn't much of a problem there, but unfortunately carries over to the flavor. Tastes like regular Lucky 7 blended with a mild nutty brown ale to cut the roast of the porter with a shot of whiskey dropped in. Not bad, but nothing resembling balance or tact in blending the two base beers with the barrel resulting in an uncomfortably strong booze burn in the finish. Full bodied and better than expected given my previous experience with Evolution beers, but still a ways to go for this style.
