a decent little coffee porter here, quite a bit of java in it, and i like to taste it. i think the base porter is kind of light, minimal in depth, and as such is a nice vehicle for a really coffee forward complexion like this has, contributing some smooth chocolate and earthy notes on its own, but really made interesting and dynamic by the coffee, it would almost assuredly seem like it was missing something without the coffee in it. the coffee has ever so slight green pepper essence to it, a very deep roast, and just a pinch of acidity too, which i dont mind this time around, it helps the beer finish and keeps the body down a little bit. there is a strong roasty bitterness running through it, a long linger of coffee on the palate, and a faint burnt note that i kind of like with the lighter malt base. a cohesive and drinkable porter overall, perhaps not the most compelling coffee porter around, but a worthwhile glass of beer for certain, and another solid offering from salmon river. fantastic in the morning on a category 4 hangover. i have to get up there and check them out!

Draft at Crescent No Lawyers. Dark brown, near black pour with small skin if beige head. Aroma is coffee, not too heavy. Taste too features the coffee, nit strong, but enough edge out any of the porter base. Coffee lingers.

In Boise Idaho.
A fine looking porter with a particularly good head. Coffee in the aroma.
Very faint sour notes and some light smoke in the flavor. The body is a little bit too thin.

Pours the expected black with a darker tan head.. nice retention and lacing... served in a big ole pint glass.
Nose is cold brewed coffee and a mild grassy hoppiness... maybe a bit of pale malty sweetness to help balance, but I could be imagining things.
Flavor is of course coffee centric, but seems a little thin.. One dimensional and unapologetic.. needs a layer of sweetness to bump it up to my next level.
Body is good... carbonation is fine.. a pint was about 2x as much as I really would have liked.
3.75's across the board.

Type: Draft
Glass: 23-oz. glass
From: Old Chicago in Boise, Idaho
Price: $5 (happy hour)
Purchased: Dec. 18, 2013
Consumed: Dec. 18, 2013

Poured an almost pitch black color with 3-to-4 fingers of tan head when I got it. Tons of foamy spider web lacing along the sides. Good layer of retention.
Smelled dark chocolate, caramel, toffee, coffee beans, roasted nuts, bitterness and some smoky fire.
Tasted similar to the nose with dark chocolate, coffee malts, chocolate milk, toffee, caramel, smoky fire and roasted nuts.
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long bitter finish.
Just a very good porter. I’d have it again for sure.

20oz glass purchased and consumed at Bennedito's in Spokane for $5.50. It was the first time I'd seen a beer from this brewery.
Poured an opaque shade of brown, with a tan foam head. Modest amounts of lace were to be seen on the sides of the 20oz Guinness glass I was served.
A little bit roasty in the nose. No obvious hop aroma, and no more coffeeish than a typical porter.
Unlike in the scent, coffee flavor merges at the forefront of the taste, but it's not overly bitter tasting. There's also a slightly sweet, caramel-like taste in the background, along with a slightly acidic note.
Medium bodied, with a slightly coating mouthfeel.
Not a bad beer at all. I look forward to trying other beers from Salmon River.
