La Framboyante pours clear and brightly coloured... at least until the sediment is introduced. The end product, in its entirety, is a murky, ruddy red with clumps of yeast sitting at the bottom that look like cake mix. Carbonation is minor. What starts out like raspberry juice ends up looking more like borscht.
In the aroma, however, the presence of juicy, ripe raspberries is still clear as day. Thoughts of grandma's jam and summer county fair pies are front of mind but so is fruit-bottom yogurt; there is a yeasty element that, while subtle, is every bit as part of the beer as the berries.
Most people find fruit beers enjoyable only in the summertime. For obvious reason I get it. But this is also partly because so few fruit beers have any redeeming qualities apart from their (often superficial) fruit flavour. La Framboyante, however, has some character beyond just the raspberries.
And it's these subdued citrus notes, subtle spices, soft cereal graininess, and overall farmhouse demeanor that make it a worthwhile beer for any time of the year. And the fact that the berry is as tart as sweet (if not more so) also adds dimension and distinguishes it from run-of-the-mill fruit beers.
I make a point of dropping into Brasseurs Du Temps every time I'm in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. I've tasted the full range of the brewery's talents and I feel that, even more so than their high-gravity offerings, a fruit beer as good as La Framboyante speaks most to their overall quality.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub. Raspberry nose. Spider lacey. Is it all real or also extract? A chic beer. Drinkable. Average mouthfeel. Average fruit beer.Appropriate carbonation. Would like it even more tart/flavourful.How about wild yeast?Was not getting raspberry seeds.

Draft: Poured a deep clear reddish color ale with a faint pink head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of fresh raspberries is really enticing and enjoyable. Taste is a nice enough mix between some tart raspberries mix with some cereal with a dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Well made though even more raspberries would have been better.

On tap at the brewpub- A deep and hazed crimson with a fluffy pink cap that laces well. Nose is all out raspberry warfare with quite a bit of hop presence, with some other mixed fruit. Tastes of fresh raspberries, other mixed berries,fresh pungent hops. Finish is very dry and bitter. Like I just ate fresh raspberries. Very good.
