Name: Winter B-Bomb with Coffee and Cinnamon
Brewery: Fremont Brewing
Location: Seattle, WA
Style: American Strong Ale
ABV: 13%
Canned: 2017
Date: 04 January 2026
I have several Fremont beers and am slowly reviewing them. I have several to get through. I am using a tulip glass to serve the beer at 54 degrees. The pour created a frothy, airy, one-fingered head with fair retention. The somewhat quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The color is dark brown, nearly black, with an SRM of 34, and opaque. The beer's appearance is average, given its high ABV.
Nosing the glass, I detect notes of chocolate, medium-roasted coffee, earthiness, anise, oak, cinnamon, toffee, bready, dark-roasted malts, char, bourbon, figs, caramel, grassy notes, and raisins.
Sipping the beer: starts with oak, chocolate, bourbon, cinnamon, oak, oranges, medium-roasted coffee, medium-toasted malts, tobacco, light char, and earthiness. Another sip, and I notice caramel, toffee, grassy notes, nutty, and light cola.
The mouthfeel is chewy, finishing a bit warm. The body is medium-plus and has low carbonation.
Final Impression: I enjoy the B-Bomb, specifically the variants. So far, this is one of my favorites of the B-bomb variants. I love how bright the coffee and cinnamon are, especially after nine years. The age tempers the high ABV, allowing the flavors to mellow over time. What a delightful beer to sip on this strange winter night.

Look - Pours a dark brown/black color with a decent head.
Smell - Has a nice strong cinnamon coffee nose. Some chocolate and bourbon as well.
Taste - Follows the nose - coffee with a hint of cinnamon.
Feel - Nicely carbonated and smooth. Goes down well for a 13.5% beer.
Overall - This is a surprisingly good beer. It is classified as a 'strong ale' rather than a stout, and it perhaps the best strong ale I've had.

Strong coffee and cinnamon aroma, but the taste is more cinnamon with mild coffee. I'm not a coffee drinker, but this beer is really quite tasty. My wife likes it more than I do. The alcohol gives a nice warm feel. It pours a very dark brown with a tan head that disappears quickly. 50 IBUs Rated 4-7-2019

2022 - drank 12/7/2024
Look - I basically never give a look 5 but this is perfect. Black and thick with a big thick frothy foamy tan head that sticks around and is super sticking with a great lacing
Smell - Coffee, Cinnamon, spicey peppers, cocoa, and barrel
Taste - better than the smell. You still get the coffee cinnamon, but the cocoa comes next. The spicey peppers is there but way less than the smell. Also get some woody char and some leather. All and all, everything balances really great together
Feel - full body, creamy, very slight carb
Overall - Just outstanding. Beyond what I was expecting after having the standard B-Bomb

2022 version. My other cache of Fremonts did not seem to hold up well into years 4 and 5, so I decided to solo dome this on a chilly 50s and 40s degree night. Pours a rich mahogany color with a nice penumbral head. The aroma is a mellow morning roast coffee with a waft of cinnamon behind it. Cinnamon is almost never a wanted adjunct for me, but considering this brew is #1 for style, I hazard a guess it will be done well, or at least the cinnamon profile will have subsided after two years. It is both done well and the cinnamon has mellowed to where it is a decent finish to the strong bourbon notes. The bourbon profile is complex, with essences of leather, slight prune notes, and that lighter oatmeal malt base. The coffee is almost imperceptible when you try to taste for it, but it creeps up in the linger like a morning blend sort of taste. Mouthfeel is full, with some hints of a bowl of steel cut oatmeal. The bourbon still gives a little bite, with a minor tannic dryness. Carbonation in a nucleated glass keeps it lively to drink. Quite good at two years, and had I another, it might hold up well into a third cellar year.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. The 2022 edition, had 4/27/24.
Pours a dark brown, mostly opaque, with a one inch foamy head and a decent amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of cinnamon, roasted malt, bourbon, coffee as it warms, chocolate, some oak. Has a bit of a spicy aroma. Flavors of bourbon, coffee, cinnamon, roasted malt, chocolate. Has a bit of a spicy taste. Smooth, a very good fuller body, well carbonated.
Liked this more when fully warmed. The cinnamon is the most prominent overall, but it’s not overdone. The coffee shows better in the flavor. Has a good barrel presence. Really enjoyable.

This is a fantastic beer that I wish I got to share. Coffee - check, cinnamon - check. What more do you want or need?

Coffee Cinnamon B-Bomb 2022 – from Fremont. Received from @snaotheus in a ninja strike during BSBIF#1. Reviewed 04/02/24 (Review 3240). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Printed on the bottom of the front label of the bomber “LIMITED 2021 RELEASE”. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 55.0 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 60.2 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), slight haze.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same with tiny carbonation bubbles rising. When rear-lite, light penetrates at the bottom edge – ruby – and the top edge, citron.
Head - Average (Maximum three cm, aggressive center pour), brown sugar, high density with a few rocks, fizzy, short retention, leaving a 0.2 crown and partial cap.
Lacing – None, as expected at 13.5% ABV.
Aroma – 3.25 – Chocolate and hints of bourbon. No yeast, no hops, no malt, no spices, no alcohol (13.5 % ABV as marked on the label).
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins bitter-sweet with chocolate and mild bourbon. No yeast, no hops, no roasted malt. On the aftertaste, weak coffee, and cinnamon. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. No ethanol. An uncomfortable gastric burn occurs.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium; somewhat syrupy; soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 The label sets expectations high but the product fails to hit them. The flavor is that of cheap caffe mocha with a bit of cinnamon and whiskey thrown in to make it interesting. In general, unharmonious flavors are vying for attention. Aroma isn’t bad, nor is appearance (any time the appearance is the high point, expect problems). Overall, IMHO a missed target from a brewer that usually nails it.
