Clear golden-orange color served with a wisp of white head. Little retention and only the spottiest of lacing. Certainly not imitating a fine saison at this point.
Aromas of pale, sweet malt and a hint of floral hopping along with a strong dose of esters - mainly along the banana lines. Few if any phenol notes. The flavor is dominated with yeast (even though the clear brew seems to defy this) with notes of banana, hints of clove, and a spicy, medicinal phenol component making the moves. There is a strong sweetness that is nice up front but gets a little Euro strong lager sticky as the saison warms - I've encountered this before, but not in the better beers.
The body is acceptable, a bit low on bubbles I think, which would help scrub some of the excess malt sugars and enhance drinkability. Four Peaks saison has a good, not great, flavor - if I'm back and it's still on rotation, I will probably get it again.
