On tap at the source. A very hazy rusty copper color with a thin and fleeting tan head. The nose was funky with hay, bread, straw, and cherries. Pretty much the same on the palate. A thick, sticky funk with some bitterness. Also tart cherries and oranges. A dry bready malt presence. More funk than I expected which was nice.

one of the great unsung lagunitas beers, even thinking about it makes me miss what they used to be, or maybe still are at the taproom, but where has all the cool beer like this gone? i love this one, a special version of the more famous wilco tango foxtrot, aged a couple of years in red wine barrels with brett, impressively evolved from the original, complex and mature, vinous and somehow still bright, woody for sure, way cool. its a slightly murky reddish brownish raisin color without too much body and a pretty good head on it, creamy white. it smells like berries and grape skins, tannic like that with the wood to back it, still some cocoa in the malt base, and even still kind of hoppy after all this time, in typical lagunitas fashion. trace coconut, cigar, and even cranberry. the flavor is layered too, cocoa and date, sweet through some of it, winey all the way, and with more funk than it smells like it has, although still some sort of stinky newer seeming brett character for whatever reason, not really presenting as wild so much, and with the wine and the time, its more bacterial and tart than it is funky, but i like the complexion and think it marries up well with the appreciable alcohol in this. it has some not out of place oxidation, real fruity grape character, and somehow has a pretty light body for what it is and for being originally very malty. clever stuff, delicious and original, great use of the wine barrels. i wish more of this kind of thing was still coming out of lagunitas...

What would ever possess a brewery to add a solid brown ale to pino noire barrels? The answer likely lies in the transformation to inlcude a taste where oude bruin, flander's red and wild ale converge. It's enough to have the head spinning with "W.T.F." ...again.

Bleached brown and cast in a slight haze, W.T.Farmhouse tops with a short, loose froth while the overwhelming aromas of red wine, pepper, acidity and toast swirling about the nose. Mild sweetness but robust malt peripherial flavors of caramel, toast, fructose, light chocolate and a pep of honey come together for a steely sweetness on the early palate.

Malt sweetness shows a quick fade while the toasty, cocoa and modest coffee notes hang around to embrace the barrel influence that proves quite strong on the middle palate. A host of red berry, grape and tartness splash the tastebuds with a robust red wine taste. Peppery, oaken, and lightly bittered, the beer trends dry and spicy on the late palate with a tart and refreshing texture looming.

Medium light on the palate, the remnants of brown ale retain enough of a presence to pull the ale into a medium textured range, but the red wine dryness and tartness does the opposite into a dry, peppery and vinous realm. A return of cellar must, cork and vinous booze spice up the finish and ensure a medium long afterglow of wine soaked oak.
