3 Fonteinen Cuvée Armand & Gaston Vintage is a blend of lambics brewed at 3 Fonteinen. It is released in the same spirit as 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Vintage in that was held back at the brewery for a number of years for aging and it was labeled with a Nachtlichten label originally by Flemish artist Felix De Boeck. The ABV varies by release.
The first release of 3 Fonteinen Cuvée Armand & Gaston Vintage was selected from the first run of bottlings of Cuvée Armand & Gaston in 2015. Over three days in October 2015, the first blends of Cuvée Armand & Gaston were bottled in a number of bottle sizes, with a fourth following in December 2015. The magnum bottling remained unreleased to the public until December 2018.
The second release of Armand & Gaston Vintage came in the Spring of 2020 and was available in 375ml bottles.

Bottle: Poured an orangey color gueuze with a large size white foamy head with OK retention and light lacing. Aroma of funky ester with some barnyard notes and some nice green apple notes. Taste is also a mix of funky barnyard notes with some green apple notes and a tart finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable with a nice mix of complex lambic notes while retaining some good level of drinkability.

Pours mostly clear orange with a full finger of white foam that slowly dies down into a cap. Amazing barnyard, horse blanket, and barrel funk right away, and the smell, getting complementary notes of peach, lemon, wet oak, sour yeast. Surprisingly short-lived on the palate as it dries out to the finish rapidly, before is sour orange, lemon and peach, in between these two extremes is some short-lived, yet pleasant complex oak, toasty earth, wild yeast, and a hint of vinegar. Feel is light, funky, and dry with only an initial burst of sourness. I liked the original better but then again I regard that as one of if the not best gueuze of all time, so high bar!

Cork and wire cage 375mL bottle. Blend No. 19 Season 16/17.
Poured darker than I was expecting (hazy, honey orange) but my experience with lambics is somewhat limited. White head that dissipated quickly leaving a white rim.
I was getting green apple and oak on the nose and taste. There is tartness that is very nice. And a sustained oakiness to a dry finish.
This is a very nice drinking experience. Next time I would like to share this with someone to discuss the tasting experience and compare as we sip.

This displays a darker and hazier amber than regular A&G, with a surprisingly taller foam head settling to a persistently firm khaki blanket.
Enjoying this AGV Blend 19, season 16-17 side by side a Blend 11, 17-18 A&G, I find this to have a fluffier, fuller body that is more mature, briney and nutty. I also find it to have developed some notes of nectarine, honeysuckle & even touch of mango not present in younger A&G.
It's super easy to drink, yet also wild to me that it seems that the oak has become less forward here. Unsurprisingly, the finish is just dry, with lingering citruses on the exhale.
It's not a significantly better or worse experience than regular A&G, but it's certainly a different, more mature one. It's not quite the stark divide between sherry and regular white wine, but it does give me a similar sort of notion in that direction regardless.

Blend 6 from the 19-20 season was really unique and crazy quaffable--I honestly didn't realize I had different blends on hand that the one I reviewed above. This one gave off funky champagne, peppery grapefruit, aged and candied orange peel and floral potpourri through a gently fluffy ride before a raspberry dipped cracker exhale. Quite enjoyable, even more so than the above, which I had given a 4.44. Time for a bump!

Bottle 16-17 season. Split with Sam, side by side with a 17-18 Blend 26 A&G which was just utterly destroyed by this beer.
What a phenomenal nose. Bright citrus up front but there is remarkable depth, with the bright lemon, a touch of grapefruit working really well with a blend of horseblanket, earth and blue cheese, just remarkably deep and comforting. Near perfection for a 5ish year aged gueuze, a blend of fresh notes and the aged depth with real nice funk. The palate is remarkably well structured with a strong backbone, firm and lean with lemon and grapefruit acidity going working really well with the cheese and wet barnyard notes. Fantastic structure, long finish. Adding the dregs does a huge disservice to the beer. Can't wait to revisit this in another 3 years.

Bottled 14/02/17. Pretty loud POP. Pours a fairly dark copper, clear, with lots of carbonation and dense, white foam. Smells woody, sour, some citrus and apple. Loads of sharp carbonation. Taste is light sour, earthy, nicely funky. Very rounded and easy. This clearly already has some age, a bit dusty funky. Too carbonated for me, maybe needs decanting, otherwise great. Happy birthday, Armand!
