Big foam, not quite a spew, in the Einbecher Pilsner glass. Piles of beige foam on a reddish brown brew. Lively carbonation on the tongue. Fairly light bodied. Whiff of the compost pile.

This really tastes like herbal tea. Roots of some sort, to be exact.Very dry with something like spoiled raspberries. Begins with a slight bitterness and evolves into something more like dishwater. Woody dishwater. A sourish finish. Some roasted malt was apparently involved. No hop flavors.

This is pretty unpleasant. It only reinforces my experience that any beer with the word "Irish" in the name is something to avoid. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Malt & Vine in Redmond.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with a thin head that dissipates to a ring around the glass and slippery lacing. Aroma dominated by dark malt, hints of toasted malt and spiciness. Flavor follows with rich dark malt with light influence of toasted and caramel malts, dark dried fruit, grassy hops. There is a faint hint of spicy tea, but it is light enough to be unidentifiable. Medium bodied with a pleasant carbonation that belies the light head on pouring. This is a nice malty Irish red with an interesting flavor combination and finish. I enjoyed this quite a bit. This is apparently the imperial version of Chief Lightfoot and it scaled up quite nicely.
