This an interesting take on a pale ale. Not a lot of malt backbone here. Bold citrus flavors with a dry finish. Pours a pale yellow with a decent head. Some wheat character in the flavor.

I bought a can at the LCBO in Ontario 473ml at 4.7%.
Poured a creamy 2finger head into glass hazy orange color.
Tropical fruit smell fresh the creamy head of my beer well after the first 4 sips there was still a 1finger head it lasted longer then expected.
Taste was refreshing lots of sweet fruit flavors .
Very easy drinking and enjoyable.
Overall a very good light hazy pale ale.

Pours a hazy golden colour with a moderate fuzzy head that has some staying power. Aroma is fruity with a citrus quality the most dominant aspect. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Taste is citrusy and sugary with a slight tap water quality. The ABV is 4.7 and I think that’s a tad low for the style. Still, pleasant overall. You can always count on Lake of Bays to produce a quality product.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Mar 17 2020 and served slightly chilled.

Pours hazy apricot yellow, generating nearly one finger of foamy white head that recedes within several minutes' time; a tight, creamy, quarter-inch cap sticks around, with a narrow band of lacing also having been deposited. Looks great, but the aroma is muted at best, to the point where I can barely discern any specific fruits - coconut's in there for sure, and a touch of mango, too, but other than that I'm struggling. Vague hints of citrus and stone fruit.

It's a decently crafted pale ale - there's notes of mango, orange and pineapple overlapping with hints of coconut, bready wheat sweetness and grainy pale malts at the forefront, leading into a grassier, floral finish with restrained bitterness. This lingers together with suggestions of stone/tropical fruit into the aftertaste. Medium in body, with moderate carbonation levels that liven up the mouthfeel a little and prevent it from being too soft; feels smooth on the tongue, with good drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.62, a serviceable B grade. I don't know if there was an oversupply of Sabro hops last season, or if they're just a trendy hop at the moment, but there sure are a lot of new brews at the LCBO that have made use of them. Normally I'd be thrilled with such an avalanche of new pale ales, but Sabro in particular can impart a sunscreen/coconut-like flavour that I am not real big on. That being said, as long as they're paired with other hop strains then the end result can still be kind of enjoyable to me, which is how I'd describe this one. As far as LoB products go, Off the Grid is at least above average - worth a spin for sure, but not likely to become a regular pick-up.

Appearance - Pale yellowy gold color, with peach hues. A finger and a half of tight bright white head is formed and sticks around for a few minutes leaving some spotty lacing at the edges of the glass.

Smell - Mango and peach, subtle hint of coconut that gives a bit of a beach time sunscreen smell. Leafy hops in behind add to a well rounded aroma. Nose fades hard after tasting.

Taste - Very, very wheaty, hints of peach and lesser so mango before that banana / sunscreen aroma makes its way to your mouth. Not unpleasant, but a bit weird. Leafy hops circulating in the background.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, a bit fizzy and a drier chalkier finish.

Overall - Off the Grid isn't bad, but it is a bit unusually, bridging a standard APA with some fruit flavors and the wheaty qualities (and sunscreen / banana / peach combo) remind me of a fruity pale wheat ale. Probably won't repeat, but glad I tried one.
