This Triple IPA is brewed with real pineapple and loads of hops. A blend of sweet and tropical characters help subdue the alcohol content and give off an East Coast vibe. Finishes with a gentle bitterness, pineapple tartness, and a slow rise of heat.
Malts: 2-Row Pale, White Wheat, Vienna Malt
Kettle Hops: Amarillo, Simcoe
Dry Hop: Barbe Rouge, Galaxy
Other: Pineapple Juice Concentrate

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for $4.50 CDN.
Appearance - Dark golden color with amber hues, a thin half finger of off-white foam on top. Good staying power and lots of sediment in the glass.
Smell - Some pineapple, general citrus and astringent booziness. Possibly some melon and strawberry as well.
Taste - Pineapple to less of an extent than suspected, strawberry again, melon and mango, but put together unusually. Some initial sweetness that fades into an unusual stale hop aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Thick syrupy and not terribly easy to drink. Carbonation is light, booze at the back of the throat is hot, but it's not too overwhelming,
Overall - LOB gets me again. Suggest a Triple IPA and I get weak in the knees. It's not awful, but the pineapple doesn't shine as anticipated, the flavors are all over the place and have a poor aftertaste and it's heavy and a chore to drink. Very glad I only purchased one as I'm not certain I will even make it through the glass.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Nov 17 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a turbid, translucent golden-amber colour, sporting half a finger of loose, bubbly white head that disintegrates within a minute's time. A soapy collar is the only remnant of note, with no cap and little in the way of lace left behind - looks pretty normal for the style, with some visible flecks of hop debris suspended within its body. Fruity on the nose: I'm getting strawberry, mango, melon, stone fruit and passion fruit, alongside some honeyed pale malt sweetness and floral hops - the pineapple is there, but muted, and there's also some ethanol fume-age going on.
Grainy malts and caramel underneath a roiling maelstrom of fruity hop flavours - I'm getting grapefruit, mango, pineapple, passion fruit and berries, with a sour-ish undertone of pineapple juice, lemon zest and green apples. Floral, earthy hops and ethanol heat come to dominate the finish, with tropical fruit cup syrupy sweetness lingering into the aftertaste. Full-bodied, with light carbonation that weakly brushes against the palate; feels slick and flabby, coating the tongue after each sip. I don't expect a triple IPA to be all that 'drinkable', but this one was honestly a chore to finish, and I don't say that about very many beers at all.
Final Grade: 3.26, a pardonable C+. Lake of Bays has cooked up several new IPAs over the past two years or so, most of which I could take or leave - but as far as Apex Triple IPA is concerned, I'm definitely going to have to go with 'leave'. Hot and unpleasantly acidic - I hated the first sip, and while that feeling did soften over the course of the glass, this one just couldn't redeem itself in the end - it's simply not very palatable at all, really. I might revisit this brew if I'm able to find a fresher can, but as it stands I'd take their (serviceable) Flight Plan DIPA over this hot mess any day of the week.
However, I must add that a can of mediocre, boozy beer called "Apex" (a synonym for the peak of success... you wouldn't believe how great it is, believe me) is such a poetically perfect pick for a glorious day like today.

Have never tried this brewery so thought a triple would be a good place to begin. Pours honey orange with disappointing collar and lacing. Nose is as advertised but subtle mango and pineapple. Taste is poor with tart orange at fore with sour finish. Sadly, a drain pour.
