473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around$3.50 CDN.

Appearance - Salmon colored brew with plenty of haziness and a small half finger of off-white head that fizzles out in under 15 seconds.

Smell - Vague cherry and lemon lime aroma, with lots of sweetness, kind of like a cherry Sprite might smell like if invented.

Taste- fairly sour with lemon and lime being present. Not getting much charry other than a hint in the aftertaste. Wheaty body throughout which adds richness to the otherwise sour flavors. Sourness doesn't really extend into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-light bodied, fairly crisp carbonation.

Overall - passable sour, but not really outstanding, just kind of there with some lemon and lime flavors hanging around waiting for a kiss of cherry that doesn't really seem to come.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Apr 20 2021 and served slightly chilled. Billed as a cherry lemon-lime session sour.

Pours a hazy, pinkish salmon-peach colour, briefly spawning half an inch of fizzy white foam that disintegrates in about sixty seconds. A tight collar is the only remnant; no cap or lace, but that's hardly unusual for this sort of beer. Very mild on the nose - hints of wheaty grain, lime zest, faintly lemony lacto character and maybe a teensy, eensy hint of cherry. I understand that it's a light beer, but there's three different fruit concentrates listed as ingredients, and this barely smells like anything.

Not bad - not great either, but not bad. Granny smith apple tartness, lemon sharpness and wheat graininess at the forefront, with hints of lime candy and cherry fruitiness creeping up nearer the back end. I am assuming that this was lacto-soured, as there seems to be a little bit of lactic acidity that lingers into a lemon-limey aftertaste that trends dry. Light in body and aggressively carbonated, with a prickly, crisp texture that scrubs the surface of the palate with each sip. Good drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.4, a B-. Lake of Bays' Tropical Twister is a little on the underwhelming side, but I wouldn't necessarily call it a bad sour, or discourage others from giving it a try. It might be getting a little bit of leeway from me, mostly because it's an ultra-light beer, and you can't necessarily expect intense aromas or flavours from this sort of product. It's passable for what it is, and might very much hit the spot on a muggy late summer evening, but it's simply not very interesting when compared to many of the other fruited kettle sours you find at the LCBO these days.
