473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Oct 6 2021 and served barely chilled.

Pours a foggy reddish copper colour, supporting one finger of frothy, off white head that lasts for three minutes or so. By that point, it has been reduced to a tight collar and a few filmy wisps on the surface, with some stringy lace deposited later as the level drops. Blackcurrant on the nose, in addition to hints of sherry, brown sugar, lemon and something I can't quite put my finger on... BBQ sauce, maybe? Or perhaps it's just the blackcurrant and brown sugar working together to play tricks on my brain? I'm going with the latter.

A nice, light, fruited sour - although it's not all that sour, to be honest. The fruit flavours are concentrate-derived, tasting neither fully authentic nor obviously artificial. Blackcurrant is the big player, imparting berry sweetness and tannic notes reminiscent of Pinot Noir, particularly towards the finish. Beyond that, there's not a whole lot else going - the lemon shows up eventually, with faint suggestions of lactic acidity into a weakly tart aftertaste with mild tannic astringency. Light in body, with low-ish carbonation that gently brushes the tongue after each sip; feels smooth and soft in the mouth, with superb drinkability. Heck, I wouldn't mind another right now.

Final Grade: 3.58, a decent B grade. Lake of Bays is not a prolific brewer of sour beers, and the ones that they have produced previously were mostly light, fruity, forgettable affairs. Forest Dweller is similar, but deserves a few brownie points for making use of a fruit that I don't see employed in brewing all that often. I also appreciated that it was neither too sweet nor too sour, and I found the wine-like tannins on the back end to be pleasing. It's nothing fancy, but I still rather like this beer, and would encourage other BAs to give it a try.
