You know that feeling of, “life is good”? We have the perfect brew to complement it. This Juicy Light IPA is just what you need as you settle in for the night. Hazy in appearance with a light mouthfeel, Downtime is refreshing with watermelon and mango aromas. A fruity body featuring clementine and strawberry finishes softly. The only thing missing is some more Downtime.

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a pint glass. From the Real Canadian Superstore in nearby Windsor. Canned October 10/24. My seventh beer from the Baysville, Ontario brewery, and fifth for 2025. Radically loved by Sundae the cat...

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Sep 1 2023 and served slightly chilled.
Pours foggy pale gold with very fine sediment hovering throughout the liquid; situated atop is two fingers of lumpy, foamy white head that lasts for a little over three minutes' time. A half-inch curtain of sticky, even lace clings tenaciously to the glass, with a narrow collar and sudsy cap remaining in place. Enticing aroma of peach, pineapple, passion fruit and pear, with suggestions of melon and grapefruit.
The experience drops off in the flavour department, but it's still alright for a session IPA. Light pineapple and diluted mango flavours at the forefront, with melon rind, stone fruit and a paper-thin flaked oat sweetness. Very light resin and citrus pith bitterness at the finish, followed by a relatively dry aftertaste. Light in body, with low-ish carbonation that meekly agitates the palate; feels smooth and watery on the tongue. Refreshing and crushable, but a little on the dull side.
Final Grade: 3.6, a B grade. Lake of Bays has produced a handful of session IPAs and light pale ales over the last few years, and Downtime might be the best one so far. That said, it barely matches up with the local competition. I am willing to cut this brew some slack, as it's an ultra-light 3.5%, and you can only reasonably expect a certain amount of punch from such a light beer. On the plus side, it's visually appealing and I was mildly impressed with the aroma - those Nectaron hops did their job. It's a mixed bag, but if you enjoy session IPAs then I'd say it's worth a look.
