473 mL can from the LCBO, included in Lake of Bays' annual Toasty Toes mixed pack. Dated Sep 7 2023 and served barely chilled.
Pours a clear pale yellow colour, graced with an inch-thick crown of soapy, sparkling white suds that lasts for several minutes. A lumpy quarter-inch cap and generous collar live on, with an attractive swath of lace clinging to the glass - looks great so far. It smells of lemon peel and spicy, floral hops, with hints of cereal grain, white bread and icing sugar; pretty fragrant for the style.
Quite light and refreshing, with neutral, inoffensive malt flavours helped along by the noble hops. Cereal grains, tortilla and bready pale malt sweetness, followed by hints of lemon peel and floral, herbal hop bitterness on the back end; light lemon citrus and herbs dissipate into an off-dry aftertaste. Light in body, with middling carbonation that rolls gently along the tongue; smooth mouthfeel that goes down easy.
Final Grade: 3.64, a B grade. Mystery Beer Two wasn't exactly exciting, but I wouldn't refuse another, either. Keep in mind, Lake of Bays won't reveal this beer's identity for another month or so - they do, however, provide a detailed list of ingredients, right down to the malts used (with rice, corn and wheat all listed). American blonde is still my first guess, but alternatives such as a dry-hopped lager or cream ale are also well within the realm of possibility. Mystery aside, it's a serviceable thirst-quencher.
