Somewhere deep in the forest lies a beautiful oasis just waiting to be found. This strong beer brings that sense of adventure with a black pour supplemented with heavy pine notes in both body and finish. Faint orange and salty aromas blend in this dry beer perfectly. You'll be wrapped up in flavour! 25 IBU

At my lady Pamela's house; canned and chilled, 473mL in a nonic pint glass. From my favourite LCBO at Tecumseh Mall in nearby Windsor. My fourth beer from the Baysville, Ontario brewery, and second for 2025...

473 ml can served cold into a pint glass. LCBO purchase for around $4 CDN.
Appearance - Dark brown nearly balck and capped with two fingers of nicely foamy tan head.
Smell - Lots of roastyed malts, hints of pine.
Taste - Roasted malts mostly, I don't really get the IPA feel as it's roast more than pine or any other hop presence. Fairly bitter. That being said, still flavorful and hits the spot.
Mouthfeel - Medium-full bodied, strangely low on carbonation.
Overall - Solid Black IPA, but whish Entangled leaned more into the pine aspect rather than being all roasted malt to my palate. That delicate balance between those two flavors predominantly it what sets great Black IPA's apart.

473 mL can from the LCBO; there's a canning date but it's illegible. Served barely chilled.
Pours an inky brownish-black colour with burgundy red highlights; situated atop is more than an inch of soapy, foamy, beige-tinted head that lingers for five minutes. A frothy collar and a patchy, sudsy cap live on, with an exquisite coat of sticky lace painted onto the glass - looks fantastic, and the aroma is also quite appealing. A little piney & roasty, with plenty of orange, as well as hints of blackcurrant, apricot, cocoa and spicy hops.
I like it - there's a lot going on, so it's a bit of a jumble, but the flavours are fine. Sturdy malt base of roasted grains, bread and cocoa, with notes of orange, blackcurrant and grapefruit also discernible. Pithy, piney and resiny on the back end, with roasted grains, tangerine and berries dissipating one by one, leaving behind a burnt aftertaste. Medium in body, with middling carbonation that adds some spritz to this black ale's smooth mouthfeel. Limited drinkability - one serving is easy enough, but it's a palate-exhausting beer.
Final Grade: 3.87, a B+. Entangled is not the first black IPA to be released by Lake of Bays, but it might be the best one so far. I don't think this is a beer I'd want to drink one after another, but it still deserves a spot in the rotation - black IPAs are pretty uncommon around here, and this is a decent one that I'd buy again. A strong effort from a brewery that I am occasionally critical of - worth a try for sure.
