Notes:
Next in our series of fruit harvest selections, we paired a blend of our Farmstead® ales—all of which rested in oak for more than a year—with Balaton® cherries from nearby Burtt’s Orchard in Cabot, Vt. This harmonized blend rested in the bottle for over a year, achieving its balance of complex acidity and seasonal fruit representation.

This one pours a golden reddish color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like sour and very funky cherry, and not much else.
This falls a bit short, as a lot of the Hill Farmstead fruited harvest beers have lately. It’s decent, but the cherry is just overly sour, with none of the balance that Hill Farmstead is generally known for. I’d have no way of knowing what Farmstead ales went into this blend.
This is light bodied, and a really slow sipper, due to the intensely acidic mouthfeel.
Cherry beers run the risk of being either cough syrupy or way too sour – it’s hard to get them right.

Top 3 of the Hill Harvest series. Very nice expression of cherry.

375 mL bottle. Pours red. Smells earthy, rubbery, with cherry and tomato. Tastes of cherry up front, but turns tomato-y quickly. Also rubbery and bitter. Rough.
