Continuing our seasonal cycle of hoppy offerings, we introduce a seasonally appropriate red IPA in the series. Brewed with a blend of Vermont-grown hops from Champlain Valley Hops in Starksboro, Vt., this autumnal India Pale Ale’s ruddy, reddish hue warmly reflects the seasonal foliage shift across the Northeast Kingdom, as well as the bounty of our burgeoning Vermont hopyards.

Muddy brown in color and clarity. Thick but smaller head that never fully fades and leaves a thick blanket of lace on the glass.

Weedy hop aroma. Some darker bread background. There may be a bit of faint berry sweetness way in the background.

Dry start with a brown bread flavor. There’s a sizable yeast bite along with a straight up hop bitterness. Relatively rich with a fine bubbled carbonation. The finish is all hop which lingers a long time.

Brown to amber and murky in complexion. There’s a fingernail of beige on the rim. Moderate, soapy lacing. The aroma is of piney and vegetal hops and lightly toasted malt. The mouth is resinous and crisp.

Muddily opaque amber-brown with a thick khaki head of moderate height settling to a bubbly film and curled collar.

Much less intense than it looks, Song of Autumn is softly malty, lightly toasted, subtly piney and gently citrusy. It's even a little dank, yet nutty. This is like a slightly juicier, less bitter red IPA, so the haze does indeed work its magic.

As such, it's a little thicker than your typical red, while still medium of body, with a soft, airy froth and a powder dry finish.

Can pour into a tulip glass.
Murky amber copper color with foamy moist sticky finger + of head. Notes of pine, malt, and stone fruit, with a fruity subtle sweetness. Medium body moderate carbonation.

Canned on 9/27/22; consumed on 10/8/22

Pours an opaque, ruddy orange-ish copper body topped with multiple fingers of rich, fluffy, off-white foam; great head retention leaves a finger of creamy cap, a large, frothy collar, and comprehensive array of chunky, webby/spotty lacing around the walls of the glass.

Aroma leads with floral overtones and a distant grapefruit zing; peach pits fade to toasted malts into the middle, while juicy citrus sparks through rustic grain and wet cinnamon over time, leaving grassy hops lingering.

Taste offers subdued peach skins upfront, with a steady grapefruit twang welcoming delicately grassy undertones alongside toasted malts building to floral sensations.

Mouthfeel shows a medium-light body and a fluffy, moderate-high carbonation, imparting an airy texture countering a subtle hop twang as a level, mild bittering eases over the back end.

A fresh and earthy offshoot, this Red IPA remains delicately hoppy, with subtler hints of NEIPA saturation yielding to toasted malt prominence throughout; ultimately, that effortless Hill Farmstead touch is present, though the juxtaposition inherent to the stylistic profile is unmistakably quirky.
