Bottled 4/21/16; drank 6/8/16 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy pale yellow appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.

A rough pour yielded a nice, noisy bright white head; nice frothy lace.

Lime & sea salt notes in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Lime & sea salt flavors up front; pepper heat on the finish. Mild habanero heat settled on my lips over the course of the quaff.

The lime & heat aren't my favorite flavors, but this is interesting & drinkable. I'd have another...in a pinch...

Aroma is lime, apple juice and a hint of heat. The flavor is lime, apples/apple juice, wheat/malts, fruit and a mix of tart and seeping and increasing heat in the finish.

I picked this up at the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL as part of a build-your-own six pack for $9.99, making this single 12oz bottle. $1.67. No freshness date on my bottle. There also seems to be a discrepancy as to the abv. BA has it listed at 4.5% but the Oddside Brewery web site says it is 5.0. There also seems to be a lot of differences in the reviews. I am only the 9th person to review this beer so at the time of my review it hasn't been given a rating yet as BA requires 10 reviews before giving it a score. What I did find interesting is that none of the other 8 reviews before me agreed on much. Some found the smell unbearable while others said it was malty or citrusy. One said the habenero peppers made it so hot it burned his throat on the way down while others said they barely noticed any hotness at all. The only thing everyone agreed on was that it was very limey. We shall see.

The beer poured a clear yellow color with an incredible soapy white head. The head took up over 80% of my pint glass, not just 2 or 3 finger's worth, and lasted a surprisingly long time. It took over 3 minutes to dissipate down to a thin white rim and the lacing was way more than I expected. So far so good.

At first, the aroma hit me like a skunky Heineken, but thankfully that didn't last too long. After that initial shock, the smell settled down to a mild citrus with just a hint of pepper underneath. Not really all that limey, just citrusy.

The taste was tart lime with a generous amount of habenero spice and hotness. It wasn't so hot that it burned my throat, but I thought the habenero stood out more than the lime. There's also some malty sweetness in here that helps to balance it out.

Mouthfeel is on the light side with only moderate carbonation. I think if the carbonation were any higher it would have given the habenero too much accent, so I think they did the right thing by keeping the carbonation low.

Overall it's not a bad hot pepper beer. I've had some chili beers before that were complete drain pours and this is definitely not that, but still it's not my favorite style and I couldn't drink more than one at a time.

12 FL OZ. bottle
Served in a pokal glass

This beer is pale yellow in color and is topped with several inches of white head that recedes quickly leaving minimal lacing.

As soon as I popped the cap I could smell skunk. I get some lime and pepper along with a skunked Corona smell.

The taste is moderately better. The lime helps combat the skunked flavor. There is some mild pepper heat through the middle and in the finish.

Moderate to thin mouthfeel

If they didn't replicate that horrible Corona skunk flavor this would be a good beer. I like the lime. I like the pepper. I just can't get past the skunked smell and taste. I love Odd Side so it pains me to rate this one so low, but they can't all be winners.

Bottle to snifter. Look is gold and clear. Smell is a funky sour apple. Like light vinegar apple, not the green fruit thing. Taste is more of that apple juice thing up front, the lime acid gives the sour/tart. The habenero come late for a very mild tingle, no harsh burn or lingering warmth. Zero malt here. Feel is actually nice, good carb balances the late heat tinge. Overall a fun gimmick, but I wouldn't want more than one in a session and I won't rush to grab a sixer the next time around

I picked up a bottle of Oddside's Havanna Lima for $1.89 at The Lager Mill. It seems like a lot of lime beers are coming out this summer and I might as well try Oddside's offering, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a imperial pint glass.

A_ The label is nice, it's got a good design and it's eye catching. It poured a nice pale yellow color that took on more of a golden color when held to the light with a fin layer of bubbly white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some spotty lacing behind. This is nice looking beer, but I wish it had better head and retention.
u
S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the malts being the first to show up and they impart a grainy and pale malt like aroma. Up next comes a little bit of weird smokey aroma with a little bit of a habanero and vegetate like aroma with just a little bit of lime coming through. This beer had a nice aroma, but i wish the lime showed up more.

T- The taste seems to be a little similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with that same grainy and pale malt aspect being the first to show up with a little bit of doughy yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the lime which shows up more than it did in the aroma, it's still on the lighter side, but this time it's more noticeable and there;s a little bit of tartness. Towards the end comes a vegetable like flavor that must be from peppers and on the finish there's just a little bit of tartness with a light back of the throat burn that lingered into the aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, but I wish the lime showed up more and I wish the peppers impart some fruit pepper flavors instead of just a burn.

M- A little smooth, crisp, a little spicy, light bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice, but it could be smoother.

Overall I thought this was decent beer and I thought it was just a little above average for the style, it's not bad beer and it came close to being just as advertised, but in the end the balance wasn't there and that's what holds this beer back along with drinkability. This beer didn't have the best drinkability, one is more than enough for me. What I like the most about this beer is nothing, there isn't a single aspect that stood out as being better than the reast. What I liked the least about this beer is that the lime didn't show up the more and it would be nice to have more flavor from the peppers. I wouldn't buy this beer again and I can't say I would recommend it either. All in all this beer was just decent and it wasn't oo memorable, it's not bad, but it isn't something I would drink again. It's one of my least favorite Oddside beers and it's slightly above average for the style. Better luck next time guys, this one could use some work.

12 oz. bottle, bottled 04/20/16 printed on the label. Another new one from Odd Side - this one labeled as "Ale with lime and habenero added" "Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!". No abv listed on this one.

Poured into a Duvel tulip snifter.

A - Pours a pretty nice typical golden color body, some chill haze and some carb bubbles lazily floating topside. About a finger of frothy wispy white head that remains as a surface skimming, and leaves some okay fluffy lacing. Appears aptly carbonated. Looks good for what it is.

S - Aroma comes off as wheaty, earthy, grainy, with notes of tame citrusy lime zest / citrus pith. Apples? Maybe some very minor vegetal notes from the habanero peppers, but it doesn't smell "peppery" per se.

T - Taste reminds me of their Beerjito , with the mint flavor replaced by a subtle earthy vegetal habanero heat. Crisp & wheaty up front, with some tart citrusy lime pith following, and the heat from the habanero peppers becomes apparent upon the swallow.

M - Feel is smooth & crisp, light-bodied, & fairly easy drinking stuff, if it weren't for the building habanero heat on the finish that lingers in the throat. Pilsner yeast?

Overall, definitely reminds of a variant on their Beerjito , only this is less interesting and drinkable. Not particularly unenjoyable, just not enough lime, perhaps a bit too much heat, and not enough weight to the body of the beer. Glad to have tried it, but i would not want this one again.
