COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF WHEAT AND OATS team up to provide a solid body that is exemplary of the style without the use of lactose. Despite its hefty body, the malt profile is neutral, allowing an assault of strawberries, passionfruit, and grapefruit to dominate the aroma. As with others in the Project X Series, we use the iconic “Juice” yeast strain to ensure the beer finishes full, without being sweet.

Type: 16-oz. can
Reviewed as: New England IPA
Glass: Pure Project 16-oz. Spiegelau IPA glass
Price: $3.25
From: Trader Joe’s in College Area (San Diego), Calif.
Purchased: April 23, 2022
Consumed: April 23, 2022
Misc.: Canned on March 15, 2022 at 12:45 p.m. PT
Grabbed a variety 6-pack and a 4-pack of El Segundo’s Broken Skull Lager after a quick stop with the family. I’ve enjoyed most of the Mother Hazy IPAs I’ve had, especially from this series. Sure beats their West Coast IPAs. Mother Earth’s website described this as a “COPIOUS AMOUNTS OF WHEAT AND OATS team up to provide a solid body that is exemplary of the style without the use of lactose. I like that hop combo.
Poured a medium yellow semi-hazy color with five-plus fingers of rocky white head that spilled over the glass and down the sides. Could see just a few bubbles coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spotty lacing. Good retention. (Sight - 4.25)
Initially was not too fond of the smell. Super sweet. In order got Strata, strawberry, grass, Mosaic, rose blossom, floral, red grapefruit, berry candy, strawberry milkshake, passion fruit and hints of Nelson. A little better out from the can. (Smell - 3.50)
Tasted about as good as the nose. In order got Strata, strawberry, cotton candy, Mosaic, rose blossom, floral, red grapefruit, strawberry milkshake, berry candy, passion fruit, lemon citrus, hints of Nelson and grass. (Taste - 3.75)
Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Long, sweet finish. (Feel - 3.50)
Something just wasn’t working for me. Still a good hazy IPA overall, but nothing I’d need to have again. (Overall - 3.75)

another exceptional hazy from these guys, they have really found their stride with them. dope can art on this one too, and i checked the artist out online, wow, worth your time, some trippy stuff! the beer is nelson focused, and while it looks a tad darker and more murky than i generally prefer, the aroma and flavor is this are bang on, the hops are fresh and the profile is awesome, lemon curd, fresh juicy pineapple, mandarin oranges from the can, and ripe coconut, summery and dreamy, even with the slightly fuller body. the head is short lived on this, and its got a little sediment, but it doesnt bother me at all when the hops sing like this. as it warms i get more sweet orange, mango, and the white wine aspects of the nelson. resinous texture too more akin to a west coast type, peach nectar and flower honey and everything spring, only a touch green later on, but i dont hate that, as it sort of manifests as a little bit of necessary bitterness. i could say this needs a little more refinement to be perfect, but lets consider this in the idaho hazy context, and in that regard, its about as good as it gets, and mother earth continues to dominate in this space. nice easter sunday sipper, great showcase of the nelson, yum!

16oz can from Boise Co-op. Pale golden hazy pour, thin filmy head. Sweet, fruity aroma, citrus. Taste is subtle, juicy citrus, oranges, grapefruit, pineapple. Light bitterness, smooth. Draft version was a bit harsher.

16oz canned in early March poured into a nonic; bright sunny gold haze with a huge fluffy off-white head. Lots of spritzy hop nots reminiscent of NZ style hops...lemon, lime...bright hops, fresh citrus, melon, stone fruit...very good. Mild bitterness, smooth body. Enjoyable.

16 oz can, dated 3/1/22, bought off a room temp shelf on 3/20 and consumed after refrigeration on 3/23/22. 3 finger white dense head in a tall tulip glass settling down to 1 finger of very long lasting head that leaves a fair amount of lacing. Almost opaque, but no suspended solids. A dull gold/orange almost with hints of tan coloration. Can barely make out the slow stream of fine bubbles rising through the haze. Smell is bold enough, even for my insensitive nose. The hop varieties (Nelson, Mosaic, Strat) really come through on smell and taste, especially the Nelson. Moderate body with a nice tingle from active fine carbonation. Overall one of my favorites from MotherEarth and a fine example of a hazy with smell and flavors that are fine examples of the hop combination.
