Often called the Polish Brewing Treasure, this style was created in the 19th century as a continental version of the famous British porters. Brewed with Munich, Pilsner and dark roasted specialty malt to create a deep, malty flavor with a noticeable roastiness with flavors of licorice and toffee.

On tap at Notch Salem
It’s been quite some time since I’ve been to either Notch location, but especially this one. I was in the area for a film screening at Bridge Nine Records and figured I’d stop here afterwards. This one called my name instantly because I love Baltic Porters and the other one I had from them, Continental Blockade, was incredible. I’m sure this one will be no different so let’s get into it
Pours a dark brown with 2 fingers of creamy tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves beautiful lacing
The nose is bold but smooth at the same time. I’m picking up on aromas of red grape, dark toast, cocoa powder, brown sugar, dates, leafy hops, light roast coffee, and plum
It’s a bit more gentle in taste, but still nicely complex. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting brown sugar, raisin, dark bread, leafy hops, molasses, nutty malt, and red grape. The swallow brings notes of molasses, cocoa powder, red grape, raisin, dark toast, leather, light roast coffee, and light leafy hops
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a rich beer. Finishes a tad sticky and coats the mouth but the roast keeps it in check
Unsurprisingly, this is awesome. Even better than their other one
