Hop Syndrome Pils LagerHop Syndrome Pils Lager
Notes: Not another IPA! What awaits you is a crisp, hoppy, Pils-Lager brewed with a blend of rare hops resulting in notes of citrus and subtle hints of "sweet tart candy." This lager has a Syndrome, a Hop Syndrome; it's bitter bite is pleasing and refreshing without being over-powering. Enjoy before and after IPAs, or even in between.

My wrap-up to New Rock & Roll Beer (& Other Stuff) Sunday (Week 690), Part Deux is kind of an interesting one. I added it since a) it is a CAN-only release with fixed ingredients and b) Hop Syndrome Lager is a rotating, numbered, bottled series with ever-changing ingredients. Just in case you wondered. The CANQuest (tm) is NOT for the faint of heart or those unwilling to defend their beliefs, however twisted they may be.

From the CAN: "Not another IPA! Enjoy before and after IPAs, or even in between."

I am now VERY curious to try this CAN-only offering! The Crack! unleashed a good bit of foaming through the vent, but nothing so crazy that I couldn't allow it to settle. It seemed like it might have been due to being a brimful craft CAN, but it was so unabating that I was unable to tell for sure. I went with a slow, gentle Glug but I still wound up with a finger of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with excellent retention that left beautiful lacing in its wake. Color was a deeply-hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). Nose smelled very citrusy, perhaps hopped with Citrus, but not a Pils, despite the name. Definitely an AmeriCAN Pale Lager. Mouthfeel was medium, but big for the style. The taste had a very citrusy quality, ranging from bitter lemon to tangerine and finishing with bitter grapefruit. Tasty! Especially for a self-avowed hophead in the midst of a jones. Finish was dry, mostly bitter and while I do not question that it was a Lager, it would be hard to defend as a Pils of any kind. I will get a pic submitted soonest.
