Not to be feared by arachibutyrophobics everywhere, the thick and rich peanut butter is stabilized by the smooth bitterness brought by the dark 2-Row, Crystal, and Marris Otter malts. This brew is reserved for those who want a late-night escape from reality 16 oz at a time.

Got this and a handful of other beers on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. Epic’s website called it “Not to be feared by arachibutyrophobics everywhere, the thick and rich peanut butter is stabilized by the smooth bitterness brought by the dark 2-Row, Crystal, and Marris Otter malts. This brew is reserved for those who want a late-night escape from reality 16oz at a time.”

Poured a pittch-black color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki tan frothy head. A few bubbles were coming up along the sides of the glass. Excellent spotty lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled roasty malts, dark chocolate, burnt coffee, peanut butter, nuts, anise and cacao. About the same from the can. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted a little better than the nose. In order got roasty malts, bitter dark chocolate, creamy peanut butter, cold brew coffee, nuts, anise and cacao. (Taste - 4.00)

Full body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter, roasty finish. (Feel - 4.25)

This was outstanding, but not quite as good as I hoped considering it was Epic and a peanut butter stout. (Overall - 4.00)

Picked this up recently at ShopRite Liquors in Little Falls as I hadn't reviewed a beer on here from Epic in nearly a decade. Love a good Stout and if it has peanut butter in it, so much the better and this certainly had that from the get-go.

Of course, this poured dark as the head was a muted, bubbly mocha and not too terribly thick. Very little lacing was left behind as there were a few wavy hints of rings near the bottom of my pint glass. Plenty of oily peanut butter and brownie batter in the nose with hints of currant and fig underneath that as the darker and boozier attributes came through more in the taste. Relatively strong, this was balanced, moderately sweet, and a bit exotic like a Belgian beer as this was slick from the peanut butter and lightly carbonated. Some espresso and bitter chocolate lied underneath everything as the aftertaste felt like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, minus the corn syrup and artificial sweeteners.

Lots to like here as this wasn't overly strong or bitter on the palate. Dated 9/7 on the bottom of the can, I had no idea if that was a born on or drink by date but there wasn't any sediment to be seen here as this felt nice and fresh as could be for the style. This never felt like an American Imperial Stout and for a dessert beer, it was moderate on the nuttiness as the flavors were in nice proportion to each other. Worth a go once as a nightcap on par with it's early 80's-looking label!

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of peanut butter, chocolate and toffee. Sweet, creamy peanut butter taste with chocolate, toffee and a subtle bitterness.
