BIG BAD DISLAIMER: What you about to drink is the naked depiction of the Big Bad Baptist in the way God - I mean the brewers intended it. Be ready to indulge in au naturel, Bourbon barrel-age deliciousness, unadulterated by coffee and cacao. Jokes aside, the brewers have been begging to package this for years. Cheers to one of our favorite Epic beers ever!

Look: It pours very dark brown with a brown head. Head retention is average.
Smell: There are strong chocolate aromas with plenty of dark fruits up front. The dark fruits are of prunes and raisins. There are some background roast elements, subtle whiskey notes, and cocoa.
Taste: It has strong chocolate flavors with whiskey mixed in. There are some toasted notes with cocoa and citrus. There are dark fruits which include plums and raisins. The bitterness gives this a black IPA quality.
Feel: It has a full body with strong but very pleasant alcohol warming. The alcohol is a bit noticeable in the finish, but not enough to be unpleasant.
Overall, complex flavor, strong alcohol, great finish. What isn’t there to like.

2021 bottle pours an effervescent ebony with one finger of mocha colored head. Average-ish head retention & slightly better lacing, viscous
S: Molasses, chocolate, some vanilla. Some figs, booze & caramel once warm, hints of dark rum
T: Dark chocolate, a little coffee, some roastyness & dryness, some smoky notes as well up front. Caramel surfaces as this beer warms up, along with cocoa, roastyness, a kiss of booze, a little dark chocolate & molasses, traces of leafy hops. Finishes with mocha, a touch of booze bite, figs & some roasty notes
MF: Medium body dialed back carbonation, warming. Just enough carbonation to push the flavor along
Superb drinkability for a bruiser such as this

16oz can served in a WABL sample glass. Stamped on the bottom with #19855 12.3%.
Pours basically black, small head, maybe a couple millimeter thick, dissipates into a medium thickness ring and a dusting across the surface. Smell is rich chocolate and vanilla, dark roast coffee. Could believe some anise.
Taste is a nice balance of roasty bitter and slightly maple-and-marshmallow sweetness. Charred barrel, dates.
Mouthfeel is on the light side of thick, a little prickle which is unusual and quite pleasant. Overall, this is a really nice barrel aged stout.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a one finger khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, bourbon, molasses and a touch of coffee. Flavor is dark toasted malt, bourbon, milk chocolate, lactose and a little coffee in the finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I was happy to find this variant down in California; not sure why it never showed up here in Washington as we get most variants here. Could be the state couldn't get the humor in the labeling, which was perfect for this barreled, but adjunct free version. As expected a solid bourbon barrel imperial stout. Dark and rich. It's been a while since I've had one of these, but this has much of the character of the others with perhaps a slight absence of extra flavors. Still good bourbon, nice chocolate and light coffee notes. I'm getting more milk stout character than I remember, but this is still a deep flavored stout. Glad they ran this base version. Since I never miss a version of this series, it would be kind of fun if they released this every year to do a side by side. An excellent stout that is always highly recommended.

A rather thin looking dark brown pour, minimal khaki head, some spotty lacing. Nose gets some heavy roast and some booze. A bit of a bitter finish here. Not much mouthfeel here, thin, nicely carbonated. Epic is rarelyseen in these parts, excellent brew!

Poured from 16oz can into my BeerAdvocate teku.
Appearance: rich, impenetrable black hue with two fingers of tan foam atop. Beautiful!
Smell: super sweet and caramelly with notes of dark, sweet dates and figs. The whiskey comes through as a vanilla note that is nice, but not overpowering. I don’t get a ton of roast or chocolate or coffee, though, which I would certainly like more of in this style.
Taste: sweet, I mean, obviously, with lots of toffee and caramel and date character. It’s rich and delightful, although much more of a treacly pastry than a rich roasty stout. I think the vanilla from the whiskey adds to this impression. Really good, but I would love a bit more chocolate/coffee flavors from the malt.
Mouthfeel: rich body with a good carbonation and a rich, smooth, lovely creaminess. Huge beers have such an advantage in this area!
Overall: this beer is good and I’ll enjoy sipping on this bad boy. Would love a little astringent roast and bitter chocolate malt flavors to balance out the sweet, sweet, sweetness though.

One I’ve been waiting to try! Pours a nice black with a thin creamy head. Very subtle BA aroma a slight roasty malt. Bitter-sweet chocolate flavor with cherry hints. BA is just right! Mouthfeel is on the thinner side with very delicate carbonation. Overall, an outstanding BA Imperial Stout!

Pours a opaque black with a finger of tan head that settles to a thin cap with some lacing. Mostly aroma of chocolate and barrel. Taste follows nose. On the thin side, but full.

A shorter review as I'm on my second beer tonight.
This is just everything a freaking stout should be. I hate the look idea, but this is big thick creamy and even has just a bit of head left....lovely. It is followed by the richest of rich dark chocolate and deep dark stout notes. And yet sweet and amazing vanilla and caramels with proper coffee notes from malt, not coffee infusion. In the mouth it's this amazing experience of dark bitter and rich oak and extreme sweet malts all coming together. Balancing so many intense flavors all at once.
It seems the Baptist while fun with a nice bit of clothing, it's just best completely NAKED!

Poured out a dark brown-black color with
a tan head. Smell to me was of malt(?) and some alcohol. The taste is one of slight alcohol and some sweetness. All in all, not what I expected. However, after consumption, I liked it.
