Inspired by the classic Puerto Rican cocktail, Coquito is aged in Rum & Whiskey Barrels with Rum Soaked Coconut, then finished with cinnamon & vanilla.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass with a half finger khaki head that dissipates to to a thin cap with light lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cinnamon, rum, light cocoa and coconut. Flavor is slightly sweet, dark toasted malt, milk chocolate, cinnamon, rum fruitiness and touch of vanilla. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Another excellent BBB variant here. There is a clear Mexican chocolate character here with the chocolate and cinnamon, but the rum and light vanilla are a nod to the coquito drink. That light vanilla beverage loses some of its subtle flavor to the malt and chocolate in this stout, but it doesn't matter, as the resulting flavor is great. This may not exactly resemble a coquito, but it's a fine flavored stout, largely due to Epic's basic malt base used in the this series. Very enjoyable.

Received a 16 oz can in a trade with @colts9016!

L- Pitch black with a light tan head.

S- Beautiful rum aroma with a subtle
dark roasted malt background.

T- Flavor is very well balanced. The rum
is front and center followed by the
cinnamon, vanilla and coconut, respectively! All the while, the imperial stout provides the best backdrop!

F- Moderate mouthfeel with subtle carbonation. Not to viscous; not too watery.

O- A perfect summertime BA Imperial Stout!

cans of baptist now eh? times have really changed. this new one is fire though, rum and whiskey barrels, rum soaked coconut, cinnamon, vanilla, super cool combination of ingredients and i think all of them translate well into the flavor, although this is majorly sweet, and i think some of one of the best base stouts in the game is sacrificed to the extras here, like this doesnt have that coffee cocoa roasty intensity that ive so long loved, but its great stout anyway, and its a fun mix this time. the rum is strong, molasses and brown sugar to me in aroma and flavor, and the vanilla marries in really well here. some of the roasted barley intensity is covered up by those elements, but its neat anyway. the cinnamon brings out the oak, and this seems real mature and well aged despite being as flavored as it is at the same time, there is no fade on these ingredients, maybe added after the barrel treatments? coconut is sweet and cooked and enriching, makes this kind of summery for how dark and strong it is. slick and thick and black, better than expected carbonation for this sort of thing, and some definite warming alcohol on the back end, enough to slow it down and let it warm up, which it does really well. more of the whiskey and the cinnamon later, another nice synergy in it, trace smoke, oily coconut almost greasiness, a cocoa note, a little spice to the rum perhaps, and subtle espresso on the exhale. neat mix of barrels and added ingredients, bold but i dig the proportions. they are walking a dangerous line with the flavorings it seems all of a sudden, dont want to lose what makes the baptist what it is, but this one is lovely!

16oz can served in a tulip. #1983666 appears to be stamped on the bottom, along with 12.8% abv. Sent to me in a trade with @norsemanone.

Pours black, not still but not lively, small head. Smell is coconut, cinnamon, some umami. Lots of coconut.

Taste is hot, lots of coconut, (thankfully) moderated cinnamon with strong dark, bitter chocolate, rum spice. Herb and wood bitterness.

Mouthfeel is moderate, a little oily and slick. Overall...it's tasty, though the one pint serving is probably about twice as big as I really need.

16 ounce can, dating on it is smudged but I can tell the bottom stamp also says 12.8%. Think this was a 2023 vintage. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with not quite an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, dark chocolate, cinnamon, rum, vanilla and rum. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some coconut, dark bread, and coffee flavors. Leans sweeter tasting but not overpoweringly so. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and a bit rich with a good amount of carbonation. I liked this one a lot, definitely worth picking up especially if you like rum barrel aged imperial stouts!

Matte black with slightly perceptible shades of dark red under a creamy tan head that clings in rounded edges.

A strong barrel presence of tannin, char and burnt marshmallow collides with cinnamon and Riesen before exhaling uniquely toasty oak. Cinnamon threatens Red Hots, but pulls back, perhaps due to some of that coconut, though that has a very minimal presence.

Triple B Coquito exhibits a solid viscosity without being thick.

undated can into a snifter. uninspired appearance; black with relatively thin short lived tan head. no lacing. Not a lot of smell but really good flavor consistent with can description. Creamy mouthfeel. Flavor and mouthfeel are the big attraction, but no way is this worth $13/can

Ppirsp fairly dark and a thin, minimal head. Has a nice coconut and rum barrel aroma, light cinnamon. Flavor is chocolate and coconut, light sweet vanilla, light burn of cinnamon that presents as burning rum, light bitter espresso finish, more coconut and cinnamon at the end. Really good. Thin yet creamy texture. Overall a fun BA stout, I will be buying another 1-2.

Of all the Big Bad Baptists I've had, this may be the best.

This pours thick dark brown with a substantial three finger head that leaves waves of lacing on the glass. Aroma is very much rum and coconut, with promises of vanilla at the end. Taste is lighter than expected but is cinnamon, coconut and rum in equal portions. More than a bit of chocolate is present as well. Words such as "delightful", "delicious" and "I'll have another please" come to mind.

Do not pass up.

2/1/24, Industry, on the way home from Mom Bell's and my trip to Florida.

Sweet, thick, coconut comes out in a major way. Very toasty and nutty right with the coconut. The cinnamon and vanilla definitely comes through.

Jet black pour with minimal head bubbles that rapidly disappear. Silky mouthfeel and smooth down the hatch. The nose favors it's time spent in rum barrels with a bit of cinnamon and coconut. Flavors evolve throughout the tasting. Rum is present throughout and is strongly accompanied by cinnamon at first, then coconut and eventually vanilla as the beer warms. There was a sip or two toward the bottom of the pour when booziness came through a bit too strongly, but overall fairly well-blended and solid throughout.

Big Bad Baptist Coquito – from Epic Brewing. A 16 fl oz can was purchased from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA on 08/12/23 for $ 12.50 (Including tax), $ 0.781/fl oz. Reviewed 04/01/24 (Review 3209). Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Undated can. Stored at 34 degrees at home. Served at 57.7 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature was 61.8 degrees F.
Appearance – 4
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. Under direct light, same. Rear-lite, same with minimal penetration at the edges.
Head: Average (Maximum 2.5 cm, aggressive center pour), buff, high density, average retention, dropping to a 0.4 – 0.5 cm undulating crown which becomes wheat as it oxygenates.
Lacing – OK but initially strange – two buttes of tiny bubbles arise from the crown as the level drops. As the level drops further, barely torn curtain lacing evolves with the buttes disintegrating into lacey lines of near-microscopic bubbles.
Aroma – 4 – Coconut initially, roasted malt as it warms. No hops, no yeast, no vanilla, no alcohol (12.8% ABV as marked on the bottom of the can).
Flavor – 4 – A very dry, roasted malt underlies entirely too much cinnamon (my favorite spice). No hops, no yeast, no vanilla, no coconut, no barrels. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Sharp gastric burning but tastes like too much cinnamon.
Palate – 4 – Full; creamy but oddly dry; soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.75 (After deducting 0.25 point for undated personal container) I don’t know how authentic to the drink the taste and odor are, but I know, based on this stout, I won’t be buying one. Coconut, like time, is fleeting; cinnamon is too concentrated; there are no recognizable barrel notes; no vanilla (but I usually can’t taste it anyway); a ridiculous price point. Definitely one and done.

16oz can poured into a snifter

A- pours black in color with a one finger foamy khaki head that has short retention

S- smells of coconut rum and chocolate up front, followed by cinnamon and vanilla bean, light char undertones

T- equal parts cinnamon and chocolate up front, followed by some runny notes at the mid palate that adds some dark fruit elements. The finish ish gives creamy coconut, chocolate, cinnamon and more rum

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a creamy mouthfeel that continues into a warming finish

Big fan of the new 16oz can format. This pours dark brown, sits black in the glass, and has a nice cap of foamy khaki head. Definitely has a rummy sweetness on the nose and palate, not cloying, a bit warm and boozy with nice impressions of coconut and hazelnut and notes of cinnamon. One of the better BBB options I've had as of late.
