July 2017: Keg pint at Brannigan’s, Dublin, as Franciscan Well Chieftain Irish Pale Ale. ABV is 5.5%. Copper colour, white head. Malty aroma and flavour, decent earthy hops.

This was one of my three favorite beers I had when I lived in Ireland. Drank it right at the Brewery bar. Incredible overall flavor. I'd do anything to get this beer in America.

Draft at the Blind Piper Pub
Served in a mug an amber color with a decent sized bubbly off white head that slowly recedes. Caramel bready butterscotch maltiness with bits of earthy hops and light astringency to counter.

Somehow this beer has been classified as an American style IPA and it clearly is not. Had it on tap at Dublin Airport. It is a very good beer with great malt backbone of biscuit, toffee, bread crust. The hop character is completely British, woody and earthy. Balance is just over to the bitter side. ABV 5.5 so as Americans go this would be a Pale Ale but this is Ireland so a 5.5 beer is quite strong. Color is very light copper with hints of orange. Head is fine with extensive glass lacing. Overall a well brewed beer. The only fault that is obviously there is a slight diacetyl on the palate but I’m super sensitive to this and it is subtle to me... it actually adds a bit of character to the beer the way it does to a Czech Pils. BJCP guidelines are just guides not the gospel this beer is an example of that. Appreciate a beer for what it is not against some standards.
