Scored in 2015 at Eataly Milano and listed in the "1001 Beers".
MJ's "Guide" gave it 3 of 4 stars, called it "interesting" and went on for 4 lines.

Brought back from Italy by a friend for my home collection- Look is of a cloudy brown ale with a white head. Aromas of fruits & malt. Tastes of caramel, fruit, malt & hops. Feel is of medium carbonation. Overall a decent enough beer, but not what I'd call a Doppleback.

33cl brown, oddly-shaped bottle purchased from Domus Birrae in Rome.

Pours a muted amber colour, quite hazy, with a fairly heavy body. Head forms a very fine film of off-white across the top of the glass. Carbonation is fine and languid when tilted. The haze is a bit much, otherwise, it looks pretty good.

Nose is papery like wadded up wet newspaper. Slight fruity characters like banana skin. Mostly, though it's really weak. Given everything else, I expected something a bit stronger, potent if not exceptional—this smells a lot like nothing.

Lots of bananaskin on the palate as well, along with something else like fruit offcuts. Kiwifruit seeds, perhaps. Thin spiciness comes through as well, but again, everything is really very weak. The body has some heft behind it, but I can feel it without tasting it: the back in particular is very, very empty. It's a real shame.

Overall, really very weak and extremely uninspiring. Seriously: I don't get the point of this at all. It probably takes some amount of skill to make this so tasteless given its style, colour and weight. If only they'd put that skill to better use.

Poured on tap into a pint glass. Pours cloudy red/orange with a small slightly off white head. Smells of sweet fruit, not overly strong but nice. Tastes of some nice chocolate with slight fruit, nice balance. Beer is nicely carbonated light bodied nice finish. Overall a pretty good beer.

Another time Birrificio Italiano trade mark : an above the average foam . This time we encounter it in a perfect amber hue product caracterized for its stinging character .
Noticeable clearness too, despite of lack of any pasteurization .
Taste shows mainly malt, caramel and later citrus and bitter almond.
Medium body beer with a velvety mouthfeel but
at the same time spicy / stinging .

750cl = 8.5€ at Birrificio Italiano .

I wouldn't call this a doppelbock, it doesn't really match the style. It is, however, a nicely balanced strong amber lager. The color is a clear, clean amber, with a nice off-white foam with small and tightly packed bubbles. The aroma is a clean blend of German hops (fairly strong in aroma) and caramel malt. The caramel maltiness is appealing, but it takes a little bit of a backseat to the hops. The taste is sweet, with a little toffee and caramel in the front. There's also notable alcohol warming and considerable bitterness. Well balanced. The mouthfeel is rich and substantial. As you consume the beer, a variety of esters make themselves known as well, mixed with the alcohol. This is a moderately complex beer that's well made and nicely balanced.

More of a Belgian type ale than the other beers I have tried from this brewer, and it looks filtered. Amber colour, tastes like a fine trappish ale. Triple hopped, with Hallertauer Magnum and Hallertauer Perle. Also on the sweet side, but a fine sour finish.

Amber color, almost red, slightly veiled.
The head is decent, with some little bubbles, average compactness.
The smell is very inviting, with light caramel, not overwhelming. Good fuity, with apricot, peach, pineapple, citron. Citrus fruit. Even some touches of candies fruit. Light hint almost spiced, with talc. Complex and very pleasant.
The taste is a bit less complex, with malt, light caramel, and then the fruity and warming note, and hints of spices. Candy orange peel, strawberry. A good hop balances the taste.
Medium body, with a beautiful resolute aftertaste, spiced, but mostly with a quite longlasting hop.
Overall: a very good tasting beer, warming and pleasant.
