Color is a handsome dark coppery amber with plenty of foam in the Saxo tall tulip. Smooth and mellow with a spritzy mouthfeel. Hint of fruitcake and red wine in the aroma. Moderate acidity, winey.

Fruity and malty. Classic Belgian yeasty flavor with less bitterness than some. Tastes strong, and it is a little alcoholic for a Farmhouse style but thoroughly drinkable. Flavors of dark cherry, even a little chocolate somehow. Cider jelly. A little sweeter than typical for the style.

a pretty average saison from strange here, at least on my initial impression. there is no reason for it to be as strong as it is, i think the alcohol is a distraction, the added body of the extra grain is filling, and the extra yeast it takes, or the extra time it takes on the yeast to ferment down, is unflattering to this strain. it seems sloppy for all of these reasons, doesnt have enough carbonation for the style, and is unnecessarily heavy. the esters of the yeast are a little too high, fermented too warm maybe even for the style, and it seems not all the way compatible with the grain base. its not bad, i mean, its a craft saison locally made and affordable, but its just lacking cohesiveness and i was disappointed because strange usually does such a nice job. definitely one of the few of theirs to skip, the rest are all very good.

edit: reading back on this, i a surprised i was a harsh on it as i was. i have had it in bottle and draft now, and like it quite a bit better than elaborated above. the yeast is definitely a little out of control on the flavor, but i really think its an original flavor profile. the carbonation is a lot better in the bottles than on tap too, so i am going to boost a few scores up. still not my favorite beer they do, but interesting enough to warrant consideration...
