The perfect autumnal beer, Kernel's London Brick red rye ale is brewed with 25% rye malt. Plenty of biscuit and caramel flavours for these cooler evenings.

Wonderfully soft for a mixed barley and rye bill, two of the harsher grains on the tongue. But the softness also was because my copy came out of the cask at The Kernel's taproom. Almost a perfect pairing with the udon noodles I had there.
London Brick Looks alive, a nice swirling foam outlasted my patience. Smells were sweet malt with a little rye spice. Tastes were balanced with hops coming in for the finish to do the balancing that they rye started. Very soft given that the two main grains penetrate the tongue.
I give excellent Overall Hugs to The Kernel for their thoughtful brewing, their large and diverse portfolio of brews and having the great sense to know they should partner with a talented chef if they want great food to pair with their beer. An accomplished micro that I want to return to.

330ml brown glass bottle. Sediment left in the bottle. 6.4% ABV. Centennial and Simcoe hops.
L: Hazy chestnut colour with one finger of rich & creamy head that lasts to the end.
S: Lots of rye. Nicely sweet.
T: Smoky & spicy. Biscuit, caramel and black pepper. Long, dry finish.
F: Medium body, rich then puckering mouthfeel, moderate carbonation.
O: Complex and tasty and very, very bitter. A winter sipper.

Pours a murky reddish orange, with some fine foam.
Smell is floral and peppery, with hints of sweetness and citrus.
Taste malty and a bit sweet to start. Hot on the heels is a peppery spiciness and a fairly strong bitterness. Floral, grassy notes on the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium, well carbonated.
Overall,a nice rye ale, just right on the perpper and spiciness.
