500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 13.99. Q1 2018 release. Served in a Wild Heaven snifter. Enjoyed 4/12/18.
Pours a deep cherry red with about two fingers of ecrue head. The bubbles disappear fairly quickly, not to return.
Smells funky and herbal. Brett, earth, berry and rosemary.
The flavor has a savory, earthy bitterness with notes of fruit skins, Brett funk, seedy berries and rye bread.
Vaguely chalky, medium full feel with mild carbonation. Bitter, funky, earthy finish.
Blackrose isn’t quite working for me as well as Wild Heaven’s other sours I’ve tried. The savory and bitter aspects distract from the funk but at least create a pretty unique experience.
