Particularly in the Midwest, we know that it is very hard to find Aussie beers in the U.S. There are reasons for this, but let's give a chance to our brethren in the Down Under. If an adventurous importer wants to start with one beer, let this be it.
Proudly presented as the freshest and nearest all-Aussie ingredients, this bottle of 2017 Growers Pale flashed my senses back to Pliny The Elder (you know, the rave you have to hustle to get in October.) Of course after a few sips this annual Endeavour offering, memory of the Pliny won out because the hops and malts are more familiar to me and because the American crafter has been at it longer. But in both cases the freshness coming out of a bottle was key to the experience.
This 2017 Harvest Looks more amber to me, but it clearly is the darker end of the pale spectrum. Pretty color. Appropriately modest foam. Smells are fresh and maltier than I thought I'd get at 4.5% and certainly from standard Aussie fare. Tastes hit the home run. Bright attack of the hops and the malts move in immediately to play... and this repeats for most of the bottle. Feel slips because the Aussie's serve beer too cold for me (even for their summer) and the hops linger too long to enjoy with the fine meal we had at Pony (right across from Endeavour's Tap Room... both in Sydney's restaurant district called The Rocks.)
Would I have this again ? Of course ! In fact, I'm going to their Tap Room and intend to review it.
