Meteor pils is a superior quality beer and the result of a unique know-how. Made in 1927 by Louis Haag and his son Frédéric, its authentic, exclusive recipe is a skilfull combination of nole ingredients, particularly hops from the Czech Republic (Saaz) and Alsace (Strisselspalt). Its pale yellow colour is crowded by an abundant, airy head that holds out the promis of great finesse. Particularly light and sparking, it gradually asserts its smooth bitterness before opening up it rich, floral aromas and offering an intense freshness.

It received the golden medal of the competition "Mondial de la Bière Europe de Mulhouse" in September 2014.

From the tank at Brasserie Le Meteor in Strasbourg. I’ll always order a Czech Pils from the tank, anywhere. And this does not disappoint. Much better than it’s average score here, likely bc this is most often experienced from the bottle. This beer, though, is bright and floral and fresh. Great fruity hop flavor with a balanced malt and yeast profile to make this an impressive version of the style. Delicious!

From a brown bottle, picked up from the local beer store. The appearance is of a clear gold color. The head is slim but dense and white. Pleasant aroma of grain, grass, distant floral hops. The taste is balanced with an enjoyable hop bitterness. Mineral finish. Okay.

From the 12 oz bottle, it pours a golden color with a nice white head that slowly reduces. Lacing. Some chunky yeast? in the glass as well. The nose gets little, followed by the mouth getting a very pleasant lightly malty brew that is easy, though uninspiring, to drink

Clear, pale yellow pour; darker gold in the cup; no discernible carbonation yet a thick, white, long-lasting head, dense and semi-creamy. Cereal grain scent; wheat cracker. The flavor follows along the lines of the smell; funeral, balanced hop bitterness offsetting a mild, grainy sweetness. Medium body rounded; gently sweet.

A really nice imported pilsner.

On tap at Monadnock Bistro. This was a welcome pairing with a very good meal, but I don't consider this a pilsner. Yes, some hops and more than Meteor's lager; but this low level of hopping would not make it into the German Pils style and certainly not the Czech.

Meteor's Pils opens with a generous head, seems lively (tho doesn't last). But its amber bod stays pleasant to my eye. Smells are mostly malt, although I detect some herby hops in the back of my nose. Tastes are balanced, but bland enough to let the food work. This food was salty, so Meteor was quenching.

This French bistro had excellent food. I had a beet salad and gnocchi. Meteor handled well the vinegar in the salad and cut through the burnt butter in the gnocchi's sauce. For about 30 minutes the brew was lively enough to clean the palate, but then just seemed to turn to water. So drink yours fast.

My third from Meteor, I should update my micro-review. Starting 10 years ago, I still don't understand BA's low ratings of this brewery. They do a suitable job for table beers and their website suggests their beer pairings with beautifully photographed foods. Meteor also deserves good Overall Hugs for eight generations of one family keeping alive brewing; starting from almost the Dark Ages to the darkness descending on democracy now.

11.2 FL. OZ bottle
Served in a can glass

This beer pours a brilliant golden hue and is topped with less than an inch of beige head that leaves minimal lacing.

It has a malty biscuit aroma with some caramel and very subtle citrus.

Caramel and toast flavor with hints of noble hops.

Lighter bodied with a smooth mouthfeel

Solid French pilsner

11.2oz bottle into a Pils glass.
L: Pours 99% clear light gold w a 1/2" bright white head w OK retention to good edge foam, lrg & sml carbo bubbles, moderate skeletal lacing.
S: Hoppy, a bit floral, lightly grassy, pastry dough, peppery hops, white bread. Lovely aroma.
T: Floral hop bite, pale caramel malts, bready notes, lightly sweet & gently rich, grains, gently pale, well balanced. Moderate bitters linger in the finish.
F: Crisp, med-light body w a med-long lightly drying finish. Nice and clean.
O: Very EZ drinking and quite refreshing. A lovely European Pilsner that hits every target in its style bang on. It is very good to excellent and I would buy this again.

Had a bottle at a Winstub in Colmar.

Strange metallic taste, not really that good.
