This NW style sour red ale was aged on boysenberries for three months. Aromas of dark fruit and hints of purple grapes start this beer off. A bright, fruity and tart note dances on the palate and leads to a rich finish reminiscent of red wine grapes. The souring has had a pronounced influence on this beer, making one flavor into two!

Pours a cherry red from the can, brief foamy pink head that quickly dissipates, no lacing. Nose is red fruit, oak, barrel, currant, candy cranberry. Taste is surprisingly dry, with tart red fruit, moderate sweetness; similar to a light red wine, but with more tartness. Mouthfeel is light and crisp.

Had on tap. Clear purplish red body with a off-white cap. Boysenberry tartness in the nose for days, accenting raisin and grape linger in the background. Taste is much the same, but not as tart as it smells, more jammy than anything. Not acidic feeling either in the medium-light body, just light tartness, to the point that the wife who does not like sour beer that much loves this one. "I want to put it on pancakes" she says.

really epic how much cool cascade beer comes through boise. well, i guess pretty much all their beer is cool, but i am thankful for the volume of it. this one on tap too, how rad! its a funky wild beer, maybe loosely belgian, done with a ton of boysenberries in the barrel, amazingly fruit forward, and this is one of the few of theirs that isnt overly complex as a blended base beer or anything, but drinks pretty straightforward, fruited sour ale and oak, lovely combination with the jammy berries, which present like a mix of blackberries, huckleberries, and purple grape candy in this. stained glass purple looking drink with a shorter and fading rose pink head, high shine, no sediment. it smells like mashed berries, wine grapes, and vanilla, with light vinegar character to the sourness with the wood softening it, and some brett in the mix too, nice and mature but not as sour as a lot of theirs to me. my mouth waters just the same. the flavor is almost fruit punch, grape juice for kids, blackberry syrup, amazing. the fruit is real authentic and real bold, the wine barrel treatment is fully compatible, and the overall depth of flavor here is impressive, super concentrated almost mulled fruit, and a lot of wood. good acidity and not too much alcohol for once in one of these. impressive offering here, a treat on draft, its amazing what these guys are capable of in these styles, really continuing to set the standard in a lot of ways. this is as fruit intense is their more well known kriek or apricot beers, lovely!
