For Volume II of the Sour Soul, we wanted to lay down a smooth beat of deeper, more nuanced flavors for the colder months. We kept the same base recipe, starting with a tart wheat ale, then added plums and a touch of anise & hyssop. The subtle spice character plays nicely with the rich flavors of juicy plum, creating a beautiful melody worth sampling again and again…

Grabbed a can of this and a bunch of other stuff on a recent trip to Windmill Farms. The $1.49 had to be a misprint. Poured a deep amber murky color with two fingers of frothy off-white head. Some bubbles creeping up along the sides of the glass. Decent watery lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled plum, fig, purple grape, apple and hints of allspice. A smidgeon better out of the can. (Smell - 3.50)
Tasted much better than the nose. In order got plum, fig, purple grape, red apple, allspice, anise, raspberry, tart berry and hints of vanilla. (Taste - 4.00)
Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, tart finish. (Feel - 3.75)
This was a very good kettle sour, especially the taste. Glad I tried it. (Overall - 3.75)
