A thoroughly hazed amber and light copper in color with a very large, off-white, large-bubbled head. The head dies down fairly quickly and leaves the glass with small spots of sticky lace. Appropriate, though it won't exactly win any beauty contests.

Sweet, malty, and bready aroma. There's not a ton of complexity here, though what's here is nice. Mild yeast and some Belgian light banana esters make their presence known, but not dramatically.

The flavor is similar to the aroma: somewhat sweet, yeast- and malt-forward flavors: banana biscuit if you will, as opposed to banana bread. Low bitterness. Very drinkable.

Perhaps a bit too much carbonation initially, as it's a bit prickly. Once that is tamed back some after swirling, this becomes much better.

I like this a lot. I love the Colorado saisons--some of my favorite beers currently.

[Suggested Glassware: Tulip Glass]

The pour was a murky medium brownish orange with an average (1-2 finger) white fluffy head that dissipated very quickly, down to a small collar with poor runny lacing.

The aroma had a big dose of biscuit malts and a funky barnyard Belgian yeast with notes of caramel, citrus (orange), green apple, pears, clove and a bit of a candi-sugar sweetness.

The taste was lightly sweet and acidic with a really nice maltiness and had hints of apple and pear in the beginning, then progressed with a good strong funky yeast presence and a mildly sweet spicy citrus taste towards the end. The flavor was left to linger for an average duration with a malty yeasty fruity taste left lying on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was somewhere between light and medium in body and mildly dry in texture with a strong lively carbonation.

Overall a nice well balanced brew that had all the components and flavors working in conjunction with each other extremely well...

A slightly hazed burnt orange with white head. Strong malt aroma to this. Lots of bread and biscuit, a touch of toast, and some wheat. Citrus, apple, pear, and banana give the aroma a pleasant fruitiness. The flavor is somewhat hefeweizen-like. Banana and spice notes along with pear and apple, maybe just a hint of citrus. Plenty of bread and malt character and sweetness.

Pours a cloudy amber with a small white head that lingers.

Smells of strange bready malt with some herbal and phenolic character. Unique if though not quite pleasing.

Taste is up front dry bread that goes into an herbal/medicinal character and ends on a slightly bitter and toasted note. It is different than most things I've had and interesting, but I don't find the taste particularly pleasing.

Medium to lighter body with higher carbonation work well.

Hmm, herbal, toasty, bready, slightly medicinal and phenolic. The Belgian aspects are subtle. Not for me, though, not solidly made beer.

Pours a dark amber with a overflowing fluffy creamy colored head. No apparent lacing to this one. Smell is heavily sweet and yeasty. Aroma of funk, dough, candied sugar and fruiity, some apple and maybe a hint of some orange in there. I definitely get the amber saison label from the aroma. Just like with the saison, the flavor threw me for a little surprise. I found the flavor to be a lot more balanced than the aroma had led me guessing it would be. Funky and sweet with some apple and a caramel malt base. I really like this and again the I think the amber saison label is pretty fiitting. A nice creamy feel to this, medium bodied, with a nice level of carbonation that makes this amber a little different than the typical amber feel. Reading the reviews here I was worried this might disappoint me so glad I decided to give it a try because I really enjoyed it a lot. Another winner from Funkwerks in my book.

definitely not funkwerks best beer here. tons of credit for something original, but this one misses the mark for me. pours a weak headed thick sunset color. smell is bready and rotting fruit, no hops at all, and a heaping scoop of belgian yeast. flavor is bready too, grainy, amish or something. mild alcool kick, and a wild yeasty finish. mouthfeel works. bubbly and medium bodied, but this beer feels heavier than it is too me, and i dont want to drink a ton of it. overall a cool attempt, spelt is bigtime, but funkwerks' other beers trump this one majorly. for the same price you could score the saison or the aurora. probably wont get this one again, but like i said, i appreciate the bold chance taken here

750ml bottle. Pours a hazy copper amber with a big fizzy off white head that goes to a thin film and leaves some lacing.

The aroma is bready toasted malts with some yeasty banana and clove and some green apple.

The flavor is toasted malts and a little fruit with a dry medium bitter finish. The mouthfeel medium bodied with slightly spritzy carbonation and a little watery.

Overall, an OK beer. It's milder than expected. Not sure if I cared for the mix of toasted malts, apples and yeast.

For 7.2% this beer drinks very well. It reminds me a bit of a rye beer, but less spice.

Head is the weak part here...but big deal. Slightly filmy. Copper body, a bit cloudy yet bright.

Semi sweet flavor. Very light chocolate and caramel. Maybe candi-sugar. Most of the flavor is tied up in the yeast and breadiness. Hops aren't dominant and not absent. There is a bit of a spice throughout, but again...not quite like a rye. Ginger? Not sure. It's a light bread and some coriander.
A very drinkable 750ml bottle of beer, that's for sure. Would probably go well with a Reuben sammich

Not every day that you run into a spelt-based beer.
Cloudy amber with just a bit or greyness to it. Not exactly appetizing visually, although it does have steady carbonation levels that are just right throughout.
Husky wheat-like grain on the nose, with a backbone of slightly sour yeast and a malt that reminds me a little of a Belgian amber.
The flavor is sweeter than I thought. Definitely caramelized sugar and chocolate. It's a little like a Belgian brown ale on the palate, moreso than the amber on the nose. Fruity notes compliment that malt base. Granny smith apples and just a hint of citric tang.
Our bottle disappeared before I knew it and I was surprised that this was over 6% ABV considering how easy it went down.
This is definitely a brew for malt-fiends that want the yeast to play an active part, too.
This one reminds me a little of one of their early experiments (French Revolution) with more of a brown-ale character.

Served on-draught into a 330ml snifter at Funkwerks in high altitude Fort Collins, Colorado. Reviewed from notes. Serving volume was 4 oz (as part of a taster flight).

A: Pours a half finger of slight cream, decent thickness, and poor retention. Colour is a nontransparent copper.

Sm: A mild strength aroma of apple, overdone dextrose, and heavy caramel, with some malt.

T: Apple-caramel body, with overdone sugar over a malted barley foundation. Balanced and decently built. Rather simple considering the style.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Complements the flavours fairly decently.

Dr: Pretty drinkable for the above average ABV - which itself intrudes on the flavour profile. I wouldn't have it again (especially at Funkwerks pricing!) but it's decent.
