This was a strange one. The color is definitely darker than your normal gose, and the nose brought all kinds of fruits to mind. The taste on it is definitely salty, with a flavor that brought a few flavors that don't normally get brought to the table...I immediately got a lemon rind flavor upon first sip, but then other bitter fruits such as quince, crabapple, and then finally grapefruit more as it warmed.

As others have mentioned, it has a unique flavor profile that is not like many others that I've tried, so I certainly appreciated the novelty. There were times when I wasn't sure if I loved it or was merely okay, but I call it a testament to Westbrook to break boundaries.

I would definitely prefer this offered as a 4 or 6 pack of smaller cans vs a bomber... as much as I love gose as a style, it's rare I want 22 ounces of one, even the best of the best, or in this case, a strange beast of a brew.

Shared bomber bottle.

Generous white head over a hazy golden body.
Tart fruity funky aroma.
Better taste with only mild funk.
High tartness and plenty (too much?) of sea salt.

Overall: tart!!

I loved the Westbrook Gose and most goses. This beer tastes like someone had that same love and thought "wouldn't it be awesome if we made it super bitter?" High-5's ensued at such a brilliant idea because no one had the heart to tell the poor guy that that was an absolutely awful idea.

The look, mouthfeel, and smell are all there. Better than any regular Gose I've had, and then I taste it anxiously and am overcome by the extreme bitterness I can not handle.

Worth a try. Would drink again...if someone else paid or they adjusted the malt bill of the Gose without adjusting the hops.

Enjoyed a bottle of this at a recent bottle share. Overall, a solid gose but nothing out of the ordinary. Definitely an interesting story behind this beer on the label.

This is very lemony with a nice bit of sweetness. It's a touch grassy, lemongrassy, with a light perfume, honeysuckle, rose petal and flower hoppiness.

22oz bottle into a tulip
Bottled on: 6/17/15

A: Very hazy to the point of being opaque, brownish orange in color, not very pretty. 1 fingers width of white head builds and has fairly good retention before dissipating down. Leaves a few slight patches of lacing. 3.25

S: Fairly tart, some interesting lemon-lime type citrus notes, subtle floral notes, some fruity esters. Much more saison-esque than Gose IMO. 3.75

T: Whoa, much tarter than the aroma implied, really a bitting sourness right off the bat. Tons of citrus up front too, its nice and puckering. I love the flavor upfront but unfortunately those characters quickly fade on each sip to a very grainy, hay and dry wheat like character, very herbaceous; which I don’t particularly care for. This beer is like Jekyll and Hyde for me, parts of it I love and others I do not care for much at all.4

M/D: Lighter side of medium bodied, carbonation is appropriately high, drinkability is good. 4.25

O: I definitely prefer the regular Gose, but this is no doubt an interesting and very unique beer that I enjoyed. 3.75

Look - Beautiful, golden color, slight white head and slight lacing. Very aesthetically pleasing
Smell - Honestly, this beer has the least present smell I think of any beer I've... smelled? I don't get much of anything except a slight coriander and mild tartness
Taste - The most intense Gose i've ever tasted. Awesome flavor. Very tart, slightly sour. Nice saltiness and the sorachi hops give it a different taste than your standard gose. Super awesome.
Feel - Smooth and light.
Overall - Everything is awesome, except for the smell... but I drink my beer for the taste dammit!
