Happy birthday to us! To celebrate our first year as a brewery we brewed a serious imperial stout and aged it on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero peppers. This is the first offering in our annual Anniversary series. Here’s to many more!

Copenhagen 27/4 2019. 65 cl bottle from Kihoskh, Sønder Blvd, Kbh V. Westbrook's usual design in black with a couple of six-shooters and a cake (a Mexican one I assume).

Pours opaque dark brown with a small dark beige head. Settles as thin patch of foam unable to cover the surface of the beer. No lacing.

Aroma actually have a very sweet, cake-like quality. Sugary, chocolate, marzipan, vanilla, sugary, heavy.

Soft carbonation. Thick, tough, sticky, soft, oily, creamy texture.

Flavor is heavy sweet followed by a rudimentary bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet as well. Light hot burn from the habanero. Lingering.

Somewhat too sweet for my taste buds. But they actually managed to get something working with chili and a truck-load of sweetness.

Pitch black color. Big, beige color. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, and spices in aroma. Moderate sweetness in taste with light roasted bitterness at the end. Dark chocolate in flavor. You really feel the heat of the habanero closer to the end, and the bite of it is nice and long-lasting.

Look - Pours a pitch black color with a decent brown head that sticks around.

Smell - Cacao, cinnamon, and vanilla. Perhaps a bit of a Mexican cake as it warms. Nice!

Taste - Malt, cacao, cinnamon, vanilla, and a nicely light Jalapeno.

Feel - A nice mouthfeel, though slightly thin. I little spice in the aftertaste. Easy drinking at 10.5%ABV.

Overall - This is an excellent stout for the money!

The draught pours dark with a light brown head that settles into a foam ring with little lacing.
Dark roasted malt and chocolate cinnamon flavors dominate both nose and tongue.
Sweet dark molasses notes with vanilla and a little tang that lingers.
The finish is tangy sweet that fades with a residual peppery tingle on the tongue.
A complex brew almost in a category of its own.

Bottled May 20, 2016 and tasted February 3, 3025.
Dark black and a dark brown head. Nose is chocolate and something similar to charr. Also after a bit the pepper is on nose. Taste is like a smooth chocolate syrup with no bitterness. After a bit then the pepper sting happens on the back of the throat, but not a lot, just enough to let you know it is there. Very well done.

A Pretentious Glass Company Aromatic snifter is hosting this shiny, jet black Stout (SRM 40+). A thin, dark chestnut ring of fine bubbles contains a surface fog that quickly evaporates. No light passes and there is no lacing. Viscosity forms a thick film that clings for a while, producing no legs.

Dark chocolate and anise lead to dark roasted malt. The habanero pepper is quite strong. Cinnamon and sweetness show up late.

The flavor is rich with chocolate. It is sweet up front with a pleasant pepper heat. Mild bitterness joins the roasted malt that verges between charred and burnt. The finish is mild, allowing the pepper heat to linger. Warmth brings out light peat smoke and sharpens all the flavors.

It has a full, almost dense, body and an oily texture. The alcohol is surprisingly well controlled, yet still very much at play. The carbonation is soft.

This beer lives up to its hype. I am enjoying it very much while watching an exciting game between the Bills and the Chiefs. All the more enjoyable because the Bills won.

Sampling a 16 oz can at cellar temp poured into my snifter. The beer came as part of a trade and has been in my fridge since it arrived. Date stamp is 9/2/2021. Hoping this is still A OK after the time in my fridge.
The beer pours a black coffee color and no light is passing through the glass.
A creamy dense tan head of 1.5 cm foams up and slowly fades to a sturdy edge layer. I get some scattered lacing when I take a sip or swirl the glass.
Aroma is rich chocolate fudge some light cinnamon note and a bit of vanilla hit too. I dont get much spicy pepper note nor any hop character.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and very fine tingly carbonation. Beer drinks pretty easy, isnt sticky or coating like some bigger imperial stouts can be.
Flavor is similar to the nose with fudge and some cinnamon too. Here I do get some pepper spice warmth on the swallow. Not boozy warmth though and no hops either.
This beer drinks well and I enjoy the flavors that I find, however, I do wonder if there was more boldness when the beer was a little fresher. Still glad I tried it.

Pitch black pour with a milk chocolate head that dissipated rapidly to a thin ring around the edge. Oily lace on the glass. Smell and taste of cocoa, cinnamon and a slight burn from the peppers. Thick, almost syrupy on the throat. I could pass up on the next beer run, but then again, I might not.

Black in color with no light penetration. The aroma is cinnamon, habaneros, cocoa, and vanilla. I’m tasting cinnamon, cocoa, vanilla, and habaneros. The mouth is thick, chewy, sticky, and warm from the habaneros.

Poured a deep black color with a creamy mocha colored 2 finger high head settling down slowly to a ring leaving a fair amount of fine lacing that slides down the Imperial pint glass from a bomber, bottled on 5/17/23. Aromas of chocolate & cinnamon are forward with vanilla, roasted malts & pepper in the background. Flavor follows nose but found the alcohol and habanero burn distracting from the other flavors. Definitely full bodied and as it warms the burn moves from the throat to the tongue where the chocolate also becomes more prevalent. A delicious looking presentation that has a very interesting combination of ingredients that work well together.

Pours deep, jet black. Nicely sweet aroma. Balance of milky chocolate, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, and hints of caramel. Taste follows aroma with a wonderful combination of the cinnamon, chocolate & vanilla. Nice sweetness with hints of the habanero & heat. Mouthfeel is full. Incredible stout.

Poured from 16oz can into my BeerAdvocate teku. Canned 4/29/24, though for a beer like this freshness might not even be an advantage!

Appearance: totally black with a thick head of creamy dark-tan foam with good retention and a good lace left on the glass. A lovely-looking beer!

Smell: a bit of chocolate, a little bit of roastiness, and plenty of sweetness. I think maybe the vanilla is a bit too much for me, but it’s still quite good.

Taste: sweet, chocolatey, and vanilla-ey, with just a dash of spice. As I sip it, the spice builds in a nice way. There’s a nice depth of flavor here; I’m into it!

Mouthfeel: thick body with a good carbonation and a nice, smooth, delightful creaminess. Great!

Overall: a tasty and satisfying stout with an interesting complexity. Good stuff!
