330mL bottle from Greenville Beer Exchange (Greenville, SC). 8.99. No apparent bottling date. Served in an oversized Bruery snifter. Enjoyed 6/24/18.
Pours black as night with two and a half fingers of mocha froth on top. Thin haze, persistent halo and a good deal of scattered lacing.
Huge roasty note up front in the aroma. Then wet burnt wood, dark chocolate and caramel.
Roasty notes kick off the flavor as well. Wet wood, bakers cocoa, cooked caramel, pine, very subtle bourbon barrel and a nip of alcohol.
Smooth, creamy, full feel with light carbonation. Bitter, roasty finish.
I may not always appreciate the pricing but Evil Twin has been consistent in producing delicious stouts. This is still a great base stout but very the barrel character is more subtle than expected or preferred.

Pours a deep dark brown (near black). Thick mocha head that leaves great lacing. Aroma is smoky dark roasted malts and roasted coffee beans. Flavor is burnt coffee, dark roasted malts, a touch of soy sauce and smoke. No real bourbon barrel that I can detect in the aroma or flavor. Feel is thick and chewy, very nice. Overall a great looking beer that disappoints me as few Evil Twin beers have.

Couldn’t find a ‘Bottled On’ date anywhere, but it’s been at least 6 months to a year since it was shelved.
The pour is nice and thick, straight motor oil. A deep tan head of foam is left around the ring and leaves small spots of lace around the glass.
The nose is where I started to get a little suspicious... smelled very similar to a burgundy sour.. tart, cherry pits, oak, and with a subtle emergence of seeet dark chocolate. Something is definitely off. I’ve had regular Aun Más and this is not the intended profile. Not unpleasant, but definitely off.
More of the same in the flavors, but not quite as evident. Slight oxidation, more of that tart cherry off flavor combined with sweet dark fruit. A nice smokey Barrel presence gives a nice distraction, along with a lingering dark roast coffee finish. All in all, if this hadn’t been BBA it would’ve been a drain pour for sure.
The mouthfeel is still great. Not as thick as the motor oil pour hinted at, but a good medium body and a pretty high carb level still. Sticky, with a subtle warming finish.
I plan to return to this review / rating if I get the opportunity for a fresher or non-infected bottle, but for now I’m going to be as fair as possible with all things considered.

Pouring from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. This beer pours out black as night and forms a thin caramel crown that disippated to an outer ring. The smell is a really sweet and fruity, almost like caramel with an apple kick. (Think it's just how the hops are interacting in it) It definitely has the warming bourbon to it and slight chocolate. The taste comes in with smooth chocolate and turns into that slight hop presence but then doesn't go anywhere. Seems pretty one dimensional to me and a little flat and thin. Wish it had a thicker body and more bounce. I do like that it brings a different and unique flavor than is usually tried. But I did want more from it.

330 ml bottle into snifter; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1 finger dense dark brown head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuttiness, and dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, smoke, char, raisin, prune, fig, date, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, pepper, and roast/toast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/black/bready malts, light-moderate bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuttiness, and dark bread; with lighter notes of licorice, smoke, char, raisin, prune, fig, date, leather, tobacco, herbal, wood, pepper, and roast/toast/oak earthiness. Mild roast/char and herbal/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuttiness, dark bread, light dark fruit/licorice/smoke, herbal, pepper, and roast/toast/oak earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts, light-moderate bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with an awesome roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and zero cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and very full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel that is fantastic. Light sticky hops, chalky roast, oak tannins, and increasing dryness. Minimal warming alcohol for 12%, with zero barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/black/bready malts, light-moderate bourbon barrels, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV; with the mildly bitter/drying finish. Not as huge on the barrel as expected, but solid. Spot on rich base stout malt complexity, with balancing earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Not as impressive as most of the other variants; but a highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected.
