Canned on 7/23/20; consumed on 8/9/20
Pours a deep, almost glossy, golden orange fog topped with a finger and a half of thick, creamy white foam; great head retention yields a fluffy finger of cap, a moderate, craggy collar, and dense rings of chunky lacing weaving around the glass.
Aroma opens with a tinge of overripe grapefruit making way for fresh orange pulp, flaky malt, and earthy black pepper; hints of musty grass and guava peel comprise the middle, guiding into a soft, rounded mixture of creamy tangerine, melon, and mango for an almost savory, tropical close to the bouquet.
Taste brings grassy hops in tandem with flaky malts and an overripe pineapple sweetness upfront, setting the tone for waves of fresh orange pulp over the mid-palate; creamy, herbal mango, fresh guava peel, and strawberry esters add a sincere nuance ton the back end of the profile, while a touch of lemon fades with the finish.
Mouthfeel features a medium body, taut and with a subtle grit, alongside a carbonation just a touch above moderate and remaining consistent throughout; a creamy mid-palate emerges, transitioning seamlessly to a silky, deft back end gliding with a pillowy, juicy texture to a delicately resinous, mildly bitter finish with a wisp of attenuated hop acidity.
A comprehensive style-bender, this collaboration excels at maintaining the balance and bitterness of a WCIPA and the tropical nuance and silky mouthfeel of a NEIPA; there's a distinct, universal appeal to this one; overall a skillfully-crafted treat of an IPA.
