An English-style barleywine. Mild sweetness with backend flavors of subtle stone fruit & roasted malts.

Big dark caramel malt aroma and flavor. Boozy ! Strong and rich! Full-medium bodied with a warming finish.

I haven’t had many Barleywines from Evil Twin before, but I trust that they can do a good job with a straightforward example of the style. Let’s crack it open and see what it has to offer
Pours completely pitch black with 3 fingers of frothy light tan head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
The nose is quite gentle, surprising for the brewery. I’m picking up on aromas of biscuity malt, fig, black cherry, cocoa powder, burnt caramel, molasses, candied apricot, and brown sugar
It’s more of the same in taste and I’m perfectly fine with that. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting brown sugar, candied orange, raisin, biscuity malt, molasses, light toffee, and dark bread. The swallow brings notes of biscuity malt, candied orange, earthy hops, cacao nib, raisin, brown sugar, and molasses
A medium body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer with a bit of a bite. Finishes mostly dry and nicely balanced
I dig this one. Nothing too crazy but just good all around

I’ve been on a barleywine kick lately…visiting Central Waters has that effect on me. This one comes in a 16 oz. can with lovely, creepy art. I like it.
The pour is reddish brown dark enough to block my view of Donovan Solano when held in front of my face. The nose is sweet, sugary, malty.
Even More Psychopathic tickles long-dormant memories of The Flying Mouflan. Hops stick in my teeth & befoul my palate (in a good way) with a resinous bitterness that’s cut by a sack o’ sweetness from the base malts. A touch of plum, too, closing with a soft sheath of alcohol. Sharp & boozy, this is still a beer I could happily take down a tallboy of.
Barleywines ain’t common ‘round these parts & those not in a barrel even rarer. This is a very good b-wine.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour, thick fluffy beige head. Roasty, chocolaty aroma. Taste is chocolaty, light bitterness and roasty. Full feel. Simple, no adjuncts. Smooth for 13%. Really tasty.
