16oz glass, courtesy of the tap takeover at the Underground YEG.
This beer appears a glassy, medium orange-brick amber colour, with a thin film of wispy, ethereally foamy off-white head, which leaves very little in the way of lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of sugary and grainy caramel malt, uncertain vegetal mass, bland citrus rind , perky root beer, and plain leafy, weedy hops. The taste is grainy, mildly gritty bready caramel malt, neutered citrus pith, a meek hard water flintiness, and understated leafy, earthy hops.
The carbonation is once again quite plain and ineffectual, the body medium-light in weight, and not particularly smooth. It finishes off-dry, the underwhelming old-world malt and wan hops not evoking much applause on the ol' style-o-meter.
Overall, a disappointment, in terms of this ESB fan - no way in hell would I choose this over your typical English pub's rendition of a Fullers pint.
