This was the reason I went down to Figueroa Mountain. Wanted to try this and the sixth anniversary to some degree. The ratings looked good on Untappd and it was right up my alley as a bourbon barrel-aged rye beer. Expecting it to be at least a 4.25. Was a bit rushed as my ride (my wife) was waiting outside for me.
Poured a reddish brown murky color with 1-to-2 fingers of offwhite frothy head when I got it. Decent watery lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.75)
Smelled smooth bourbon, vanilla, caramel, dark fruits, plum, dates, figs and leathery oak. (Smell - 4.25)
First thought on the taste was holy shit. So damn smooth. Got caramel, toffee, vanilla, smooth bourbon, dark fruits, tobacco, plum and leather. (Taste - 4.50)
Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. (Feel - 4.75)
Just a great rye beer, probably my favorite ever. Looking back, yes. Yes it is. (Overall - 4.50)
