Pours a slightly hazy amber, with a dusting of white head. Mild biscuit aroma, with a touch of earthy hops in the background. Light bodied, with a touch of sweet caramel, fading to a dry mildly bitter finish. Overall not a bad Dortmunder.

Having this beer on-tap at the brewpub. Served in a standard pint glass, this beer draws pretty clear, light to medium golden color with a white head that’s about an inch thick when first drawn and served. Head settles to a thick white ring lining the inside of the glass along with some small cluster swirls of surface foam. Aromas of some crisp, slightly bready and biscuity malts that give way to some floral hops. A very similar flavor profile here, with slightly bready and slightly biscuity malts with slight sweetness. A very clean malt flavor here, if that makes any sense. Perhaps just a bit of wheat, but then again maybe not. Rounded out with just a slight hint of peppery spice and some floral hops that add a bit of bitterness and balance out the overall flavor profile. Has a mainly crisp, also smooth, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Has a clean finish. A solid beer, but not great. I certainly enjoyed it though, as I have not had a beer of this style in quite some time.

I bought the Barnburner at the Drug Mart in Williard, Ohio. It poured a golden clear with white head that dissipates quickly and no lace. The scent has some biscuit tones. The taste is evenly balanced and easy to drink. There is a bread base that make it tasty. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall it decent and would have this one again.

Barnburner Lager - Lagerheads Smokehouse & Brewing Co. Poured from the bottle into a glass mug, two fingers thick off-white head, spottier lacing, and a clear golden body.

The scent I'm picking up with this beer is rich grains and malts. No hop bitterness in this beer.

I can taste very hearty grains maybe even some oats in there.

Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, nothing lingers with this brew.

I'll give Barnburner Lager - Lagerheads Smokehouse & Brewing Co. an overall 3.25. I probably will never buy this beer again.

A - Well it's pretty hazy amber brown with just a 1/4 inch of head which surprisingly has some sticky opaque head. Very dirty look for a lager.
S - Has a sort of sour dough smell, typical lager yeast and some caramel malts.
T - Ignoring the hard water finish it does have the biscuit malt and hop taste on par with the style yet kind of skunky. Has a sort of sweet finish.
M - Medium, kind of chewy, not what I want in my lagers.
Overall it's a pretty good beer but it seems like a home brew take on a Altbier but that's kind of far from the labeled style so minus points.

So is this lager supposed to be amber/brown? Interesting beer, but oddly malty with a touch of hop influence. Feel is smooth. An easy drinker, but frankly, this strikes me mostly as an odd homebrew as opposed to a finely executed version of the style.

Appearance: It pours a slightly hazy golden color and is topped with way too much head.
Smell: It smells of malts and a small amount of hops, it has a small sweet aroma in the background.
Taste: This is a rather clean tasting brew that is easy on the palate and has a rather sweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-light bodied with a rather sweet finish good beer but no where it should be.

This had the makings of a great dortmunder. A great local brewery, nice color, and a cool label. In the end, though it's pretty average. The aroma is lacking - it is inoffensive, but not where it should be. The taste is somewhat hoppy but not nearly as malty as it could be. The aftertaste is very good. Due to all the above, it is a reasonably good experience and I woulc never refuse one of these, but I don't intend to buy it again.

Pours golden orange copper body with a bright off white head, forming thick and flowing fast with carbonation. Aroma smells horrible like sick grain gone horribly wrong, I can't even explain the offness I'm smelling in the nose. Flavor tastes like garlic, garbage, regurgitated throwup, a bit of corn meal, off graininess, no hops. This beer sucks asshole, and I can't evenly say that with any sort of finesse. Officially the worst beer I've ever tried in the state of Ohio, no aging notes written on the bottle. Mouthfeel is horrible, I can't stomach another sip of this beer completely horrible gut wrenching beer from Medina Ohio. Never by these beers if they taste like this,l I guess I will try this beer again only to see if it's actually this bad.

22 oz bottle poured into a pilsner glass
A: A pleasant light orange color, with a 1/2 finger head that settles quickly. Slowly rising carbonation.
S: Grains and bread
T: Biscuit and grains. Caramel midpalate. A bit of bitterness to finish.
M: Medium-bodied, a bit heavier than I'd expect for a lager but pleasant
O: As others have said, pretty average but certainly a nice beer to sit & sip & not think too hard about.

Barnburner Lager

Pours a straw yellow with a chill haze. Silky head forms and recedes away. Aromas of lager yeast, fruit, mild herbal hop and some alcohol. In the taste, sweet grains, faint bitterness, and buttery biscuit. Some alcohol comes through, and in the finish, a distinct lagery yeast trait with some buttery diacetyl. Drinks like a very big lager. Medium bodied, slick feel with decent carbonation but not quite crisp. Overall, not a bad effort, a pretty decent export lager, but could use some cleaning up.

Picked up a bomber of this at the local beer shop. I've been wanting to try some of Lagerheads stuff for a while. Pours a dark straw color with a light white head. Head went away pretty quickly but would leave a little lacing at every sip. More malt centered than anything with notes of caramel in the background. It was a little too sweet for my tastes and that made the bomber a little tough to finish but overall not a bad brew.

A 650 mL bomber from Vintage Estate.

A: The export lager is a golden brown color, ligher with an apple juice look. Crystal clear, the lager is stunningly clear. A thick white head slowly popped away, leaving plenty of lace in a latticework of patches.

S: Sweetly rich, aromas of biscuity grains, a dash of caramel, and white grapes/green apples. The fruitiness is mild but clearly present. A roasted body amplifies the sweetness.

T: Malty with a pleasant sweet streak. The biscuity breads have a light breadiness that is conducive to fruity lager sweetness. Apples and grapes, soft fruits that is, drive the sweetness. Not cloying, not by any stretch; however, the lager seems a firm breadiness. A soft, very mild, bitterness lingers in the latter part of each sip.

M: The lager's softness doesn't seem like an assertive export lager. An okay drinker though, the sweetness growing on me with each sip.

While I've heard of Lager Heads Brewing Company out of Medina, I've not yet sampled any of their brews, so I'm eager to see how this offering goes down.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. The label describes this as, "a golden lager with an even balance of german malts and hops. Crisp and smooth, with a touch of sweetness in the finish." Let's see how it stacks up against their rather stock description.

Pours a golden, almost copper color with a 1/2" head that reduces rather quickly, leaving a fine skim of white head. There's a mild to moderate amount of carbonation that is difficult to detect beneath the rapidly condensing glass.

Smell is malty and grassy, with a touch of corn and a hint of caramel. There's a flat, almost stale aroma that rises when the glass is swirled, like wet straw.

Taste is oaty, malty and sweet, with the mildest of bitter hitting mid sip.

Medium bodied, with a dryness that leaves the tongue feeling sticky.

Overall, an average brew at best. It is not bad, but there's nothing about it to make me stand up and take notice. Nonetheless, I want to support the local brewery, and will definitely give their other offerings a try as I find them.

their website calls it a golden lager, i guess i'd say it is like a dortmunder with many characteristics of a cali common or steam beer.

A- nice clear deep amber with a creamy off white head and ample lace.

S- fresh grainy with a fruity tartness and a touch of melon. some grassy hops

T- somewhat mineral waterish, fresh grain and floral probably noble hop flavor. nice balance with hops winning out in the end but theres an extra push of unfermented sugars right before it finishes dry and zesty. checking that flaw would bump the score way up.

MF- juicy and just full enough to be enjoyable with no extra heft.

D- decent at best, there's too many little flaws that (i assume) could be easily fixed for this to be a winner. but hell i love supporting local breweries nonetheless. goes down easier at 3am after a hard night.
