This is the one with Jake, a dog on the front (not Jake from State Farm). Pours a brown and black mixture, tan head 4/7" deep. The aroma is vanilla first. Roasted and chocolate malt beneath that.
Taste leans on the sweet side in tandem with the vanilla, largely bypasses notes of malt and hops so you can taste vanilla all the time. Kind of reminds me of the Breckenridge vanilla porter. One thing I liked about it was that it was just a normal ass porter heft, none of that imperial sludge factory Chicago pour stuff. Relatively smooth. Pretty much falls in line with my expectations when I hear about a vanilla porter.
I think its a good beer to suggest for those who think they can't like a dark beer. It isn't super heavy or boozy, nor does it have a heavy bitterness or charring of the malt. Plus people who don't like beer, much less dark beer, sometimes tend to like sweetness and vanilla. Decent enough.

Has a bit of an old ale tang flavor to it; making it interesting, but not a yum-yum.
Looks nice with a mocha head. Smells have a bit too much vanilla. But that gets balanced in the Tastes with milk chocolate and other roasted malts. OK chewy, but tang lingers.
A decent replacement for dessert.
My first from Paw Paw, I went on their site. Very similar story to a lot Michigan breweries, grounded in community and a decent place to work and drink and eat something, too. Starting their tenth year. Good luck !

Taste: Smokey, dark malt, nutty, subtle vanilla bean flavor, not really sweet. Mild toasted malt nose. Black/Brown hue, mostly opaque, with tan head and delicate lace on taster glass. Medium body. 28.5 IBUs

On tap at Paw Paw the day after Dark Lord Day 2012. Had a few pints of this one. Pours near-black with a nice mocha head and a few spots of lacing on the way down. The nose carries some initial vanilla followed up with chocolate and roast. Milk chocolate, which paired nicely with the vanilla. More complexity as it warmed. Flavor was nice and vanilla forward without being too over the top or seeming artificial. Good malt background. Body is medium with lowish carbonation and a bit of chewiness. Really nice brew. Glad I was able to try this one.
