Pint bottle served in a cool tulip. Pours a deep dark brown with no discernible highlights when held up to the (admittedly dim) lighting, with no particular head. Smells of caramel, vanilla and sweet biscuit, and slightly boozy. T: Dark chocolate and smoke, secondary notes of licorice and espresso. Light on the palate but satisfying, a nice balance between sweet and bitter. Soft and creamy mouthfeel, light and fizzy. O: A highly serviceable beverage.

Wow - no reviews on this one for a while. I picked up a bottle in late Summer in Boston that says it was bottled in April, 2015. Premature retirement?
I gotta say that I'm surprised by the low scores here. Maybe the version I had has a little more age on it?
Nice, porter body - deep saddle brown in color, not much head, but light in a good way. At 7%, this isn't a heavy hitter for a bba beer and the body is light enough to let more nuances carry through. The nose is bourbony and nutty and a little sweet. Taste is very nice. Balanced flavors here - bourbon for sure with some great toasted nut and molasses sweetness. Lingering flavors are great - kind of nice to have a bba beer that hosts other flavors at the party.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a short beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains coffee, dark fruit, licorice, roasted malts and a faint touch of hops.
T: The taste starts out with a hearty roasted malt character that is quickly followed by sweet flavors of coffee, dark fruit, chocolate and licorice. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. There’s a touch of smokiness in the background. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky but clean for the style.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, decent kick, good representation of style, this is a solid porter to drink for a long time.
