Surprised to see I had to add this KYI to BA because it's probably one of the most intriguing entries to Idle Hands' inspired fruit sour series to date, and also poised to be one of the very best. Salted Rim is their take on a "margarita" sour and is brewed with lime, ginger, and salt.

The pour is close to most other KYI entries, but with a fluffier and more retentive head than some of the older varietals I've seen. Seems like they're getting better at brewing these and dialing them in, so that's good to see. Bright yellow-gold without much clarity, topped off with an eggshell-white collar of foam that initially builds up to a few fingers upon first pour, though it quickly settles to a quarter-finger that lasts for the whole time I'm enjoying my can.

The nose positively jumps out of this one with intense, fresh lime juice and a gingery zing that really feels authentic and fun. "Fun" is a term I use in a lot of my KYI reviews, but I truly do mean that these beers give me a childlike sense of excitement whenever I crack a new one open. Will Idle Hands nail the combination of fruits and other additions, will it be balanced with the sour beer base, and will I want to drink it again? Some of the KYIs feel like "one and done" experiences, but this one has the makings of one of the best and most drinkable in the series. Anyway, I'm just really enjoying the way this is coming across already. The combination of citrus and spice feels "right," and I can already tell the sourness is going to be amplified... exciting!

Flavor is exactly as expected... huge sourness, intense lime and ginger flavor, and some nice minerality in the finish that kinda balances the acid and citrusy fruitiness. Almost has an herbal note thanks to the ginger playing interestingly with the salt, as well. Every sip I take of this feels more enjoyable than the last... absolutely mouth-watering stuff, and I don't even really like margaritas (not a tequila fan for the most part, though I know there probably is some out there that's more to my taste as a whiskey drinker). Glad they didn't use agave or add any extra sugar (other than the lactose they typically dose KYIs with), as the feel here is also superb and doesn't need to be dried out or changed whatsoever. Effervescent, complex, and juicy while still finishing kind of dry (by comparison to other KYIs). Definitely pick this one up if you can find it. I hope they make it again!
