On tap at PreFunk Boise. Medium amber pour with a small bubbly beige head. Aroma is pumpkin pie spice, which carries over to the flavor. A gentle pucker factor also makes an appearance, adding a nice twist to the standard fall "harvest" flavors.

Hazy copper colored ale with a small white colored head.

Smells of sour and pumpkin pie spice. Fair amount of barnyard funk. Slight scent of phenol.

Starts out sour and spicy. Phenol taste is present. Pleasantly sour but no one I know really asked for sour pumpkin pie. That is exactly what this tastes like, sour pie including the taste of the crust.

Mouthfeel is OK.

Overall, whoever asked for sour pumpkin pie?

Tiny, flat pour. Dark orange and hazy.

Smells very, very tart, as is the wont of Almanac, with a small hint of pie spice.

Tastes super tart and acidic up front and then just magically gets balanced out by a back end that's a pretty straightforward pumpkin ale, with cinnamon and bread nodes.

A weird but simple idea that's very well executed.

A: Pours a very hazy deep burnt orange in color with moderate amounts of gentle visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate amber + golden yellow highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy foamy beige head that reduces to a small to medium sized patch of very thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of roasted pumpkins, earthy barnyard brett funkiness, and tartness with light to moderate aromas of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon + nutmeg).

T: Upfront there is a light flavor of caramel malts + roasted pumpkin with just a hint of sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of tartness and earthy barnyard brett funkiness. Finally there are moderate flavors of pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon + nutmeg) in the finish. Overall there is a light to moderate flavor of lingering tartness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of acidic prickliness.

O: Very enjoyable - the combination of roasted pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices, tartness, and brett funkiness is wonderful. Very easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. I think I could easily have a couple of glasses of this.

375 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/10/2016. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/sour lemon, lime, pumpkin, green apple, white grape, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, oak, wheat, toasted bread, light caramel, hay, straw, leather, funk, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pumpkin/spices, oak barrel, and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour lemon, lime, pumpkin, green apple, white grape, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, oak, wheat, toasted bread, light caramel, hay, straw, leather, funk, light white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Moderate fruity tart/sourness and light yeast/tannic oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of sour lemon, lime, pumpkin, green apple, white grape, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, oak, toasted bread, hay, straw, leather, funk, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pumpkin/spices, oak barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/sour/spiciness balance; with zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from acidity/tannins, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, acidic/tannic, fairly creamy/grainy, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is an outstanding spiced Brett wild ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, pumpkin/spices, oak barrel, and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink, despite the high level of sourness/tannins. This feels very well developed on Brett complexity, with a great balance of spice/malt flavors. A highly enjoyable offering.

375 ml bottle into a tulip glass. Bottled 8/10/16, had 10/24/17.

Pours a clear golden color, with a one and a half inch foamy head and a good amount of foamy lacing. Smells tart and sour. Aromas of yeast, pumpkin, nutmeg, allspice, white wine, grapes, light vinegar, some black pepper when warm, some brett funk. The taste is yeast, malt, a medium sourness, light tartness, pumpkin, nutmeg, allspice, cloves, white grapes, a little oak, light wine, some faint lemon. Smooth, dry, a solid light to medium body, well carbonated.

The pumpkin and spices are subtle overall, but effective. A very good level of sourness and tartness that fits the direction of the beer. Very enjoyable and well worth a purchase, if it comes around again.
